Apparatus and method for linearizing narrowband carriers with low resolution predistorters are provided. The method includes amplifying, using a power amplifier, one or more broadcast carriers and linearizing, using a predistorter coupled to the power amplifier, the one or more broadcast carriers. The method also includes determining, using an electronic processor, a composite bandwidth of the one or more broadcast carriers and determining, using the electronic processor, whether the composite bandwidth is below a modulation bandwidth of the predistorter. The method further includes controlling, using the electronic processor, a pacification carrier generator coupled to the electronic processor to combine a pacification carrier with the one or more broadcast carriers when the composite bandwidth is below the minimum modulation bandwidth of the predistorter.

Linearizing narrowband carriers with low resolution predistorters

Apparatus and method for reallocation of spectral resources in multiwaveform systems. One embodiment provides a base station operating in a narrowband spectrum and broadband spectrum that share a band allocation of RF spectrum. The base station includes a narrowband transceiver, a broadband transceiver, and an electronic processor coupled to the narrowband transceiver and the broadband transceiver. The electronic processor is configured to determine that a traffic load on the narrowband transceiver is increasing and determine a number of additional carrier channels based on the traffic load to operate the narrowband transceiver within a predefined blocking rate. The electronic processor is also configured to reduce a bandwidth of the broadband transceiver based on the number of additional carrier channels and assign additional carrier channels to the narrowband transceiver to operate the narrowband transceiver with the number of additional carrier channels.

Reallocation of spectral resources in multiwaveform systems

An exemplary system in accordance with some embodiments includes a field-replaceable unit (FRU) and a controller. The FRU may include an FRU Ethernet coupler comprising an FRU return node and an FRU power node. The controller may include a controller Ethernet coupler including a first controller node and a second controller node. The controller may include a comparator and a switch. The controller may be operable to detect whether the FRU is connected to the controller by comparing a voltage at the first controller node to a reference voltage. The controller is also thereby operable to, when the controller Ethernet coupler is connected to the FRU Ethernet coupler with an Ethernet cable, cause current flow from a voltage source to the FRU.

The second time is a predetermined time offset after the first time. The method also includes transmitting, using one or more antennae, a multi-carrier signal including the plurality of modulated signals.

The method includes identifying, based on the wideband scan data, a spectral region including a signal of interest. The method includes controlling, with the electronic processor, a narrowband receiver coupled to the receive path in parallel with the wideband receiver to collect a sample of the signal of interest.

Base station device with reduced power consumption and method thereof. The base station device includes a transmitter configured to implement time-division multiple access (TDMA). The transmitter transmits payload signals in a TDMA frame including a first timeslot and a second timeslot, with one of the first timeslot and the second timeslot designated as an active timeslot and the other of the first timeslot and the second timeslot designated as an idle timeslot. The base station device includes an electronic processor coupled to the transmitter and configured to control transmission of calls through the transmitter. The electronic processor is configured to transmit payload signals during the active timeslot and de-key the transmitter during the idle timeslot. During a voice call, the electronic processor is configured to re-kay the transmitter during a portion of the idle timeslot to transmit synchronization information.

A method and server provide for routing traffic to user equipment in a talkgroup. The server receives a request for a new talkgroup call for a talkgroup. The server determines a total number of device targets for the talkgroup call. When the total number of device targets for the new talkgroup call is greater than a predetermined total target threshold number, a call grant for the new talkgroup call is routed to each device target for the talkgroup via a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) network. When the total number of device targets for the new talkgroup call is less than the predetermined total target threshold number, the call grant for the new talkgroup call is routed to each device target for the talkgroup via a preferred network for each device target.

The radio-frequency site comprises one or more radio transmitters in communication with one or more transmit antennas, a monitoring radio receiver in communication with a receive antenna through a variable attenuator, and a controller in communication with the one or more radio transmitters, the monitoring radio receiver and the variable attenuator. The controller identifies the one or more radio transmitters which are currently transmitting, and responsively controls the variable attenuator to an attenuation value where a dynamic range of the monitoring radio receiver has a linear response for total power received at the receive antenna, the attenuation value associated with the one or more radio transmitters that are currently transmitting. Thereafter, the controller controls the monitoring radio receiver to scan at least currently active frequencies of the one or more radio transmitters, for example to detect problems at the site.

Methods and systems for improving adjacent channel rejection performance in a wireless signal by a radio device in a mobile network. In one embodiment, a mobile radio network includes a first radio device (e.g., a subscriber), a second radio device, and a fixed radio apparatus (e.g., a base station or repeater). The first radio device receives a first channel signal having a first frequency offset with respect to a reference frequency. The first channel signal is associated with the second radio device. The first radio device measures the first frequency offset, determines a second frequency offset for a second channel signal, and transmits the second channel signal with the second frequency offset.

Method and system for improving adjacent channel rejection performance in a wireless network

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for dynamically adjusting frequency offsets for mitigating interference. One embodiment takes the form of a process carried out by a mobile radio configured to use an adjustable transmit frequency. The mobile radio estimates an expected base-station-receive power level with respect to transmissions from to a base station. The mobile radio adjusts the transmit frequency to be a center frequency of a radio channel plus a default frequency offset responsive to the estimated expected base-station-receive power level being less than a first threshold. The mobile radio adjusts the transmit frequency to be the center frequency plus a modified frequency offset responsive to the estimated expected base-station-receive power level being greater than a second threshold. The modified frequency offset is greater in magnitude than the default frequency offset. The mobile radio transmits an uplink signal to the base station over the adjusted transmit frequency.

Methods and systems for dynamically adjusting frequency offsets for mitigating interference

Spectral efficiency is improved by assigning uplink channels according to expected receive signal levels at a serving base station. A first subscriber device detects a new call request indication, and then determines, as a function of its transmit power level and current location relative to the serving base station, an expected receive signal strength indication (RSSI) at its serving base station. Depending on whether it is determined that the expected RSSI is greater than or less than a RSSI threshold: one of (i) transmitting a call request to the serving base station requesting an assignment to a respective designated high-power or low-power channel for the new call and (ii) transmitting the new call on a respective pre-allocated high-power or low-power channel.

The vector field sensor senses an intensity of a vector field resulting from the analog RF signal radiated by at least the antenna (and possibly other portions of the device). The electrically conductive chassis portion includes a current path inhibitor, which biases current present in the electrically conductive chassis portion toward the path conductor, where the location at which the one end of the path conductor is coupled to the electrically conductive chassis portion is positioned between the current path inhibitor and the first end of the electrically conductive bridge.

A method and apparatus for power conservation is provided for a multi-mode wireless communication device () capable of operating in a plurality of networks, each of the plurality of networks having a network signal with predetermined spectral characteristics. The wireless communication device () includes a variable bandwidth signal detector (), a threshold detector (), and a controller (). The variable bandwidth signal detector () receives radio frequency (RF) signals and defines a detection bandwidth for signal detection. The threshold detector () is coupled to the variable bandwidth signal detector () and detects a network signal within the RF signals in response to determining whether a signal is present within the detection bandwidth having a signal strength greater than a predetermined signal strength. The controller () is coupled to the variable bandwidth signal detector () and the threshold detector () and offsets a center of the detection bandwidth of the variable bandwidth signal detector () in response to the predetermined spectral characteristics of the network signal.
