The present disclosure provides enhanced techniques for dynamically monitoring and controlling user experiences on a website based on user activity of associated software applications. A system can offer a number of web pages to different user groups in an experiment. Each web page can describe respective configurations of an application, and each user group may receive a particular web page based on one or more criteria. An application installer and a resource identifier are transmitted to the client device in response to an installation request. A configuration file is also delivered to the client device based on the resource identifier. The configuration file causes the installation of a particular application configuration on the client device. The application configuration sends telemetry data indicating user retention data to a service. A usage report summarizing the telemetry data is generated and utilized to adjust the criteria for controlling one or more experiments.

Dynamic monitoring and control of web page experiences based upon user activity of associated applications

Embodiments are directed to providing an image in response to a request for an image and to requesting an image for a specified context. In one scenario, a computer system stores multiple image representations of a corresponding visual asset identified by an identifier. The image representations include a vectorized representation of the visual asset and/or a rasterized representation of the visual asset. The computer system receives a request that includes an identifier for one of the visual assets and usage parameters. The computer system evaluates at least one of the usage parameters to identify an image representation of the identified visual asset that substantially corresponds with the usage parameters. The computer system then obtains the identified image representation of the corresponding visual asset based on the evaluation and provides the obtained image representation in response to the request.

Technologies and concepts are described herein for authoring a database query through the modification of a view of the data to be returned by the query. A user interface is provided for authoring a database query through the modification of a view of the data to be returned by the query that includes a view showing the results of a database query. A user interface is also provided for modifying the view to define the results of the query. As the view is modified, a query definition is generated which, when executed against the database, will return the results of the database query shown in the view. When the desired results are shown in the view, the query definition can be saved and run against the database to perform the database query.

An application that generates a user interface includes multiple assets, such as icons, that are overlaid onto other user interface elements, such as tool bars, menus, windows, etc. The assets may be configured at runtime to match a user interface theme that utilizes specific colors, fonts, and styles. The application, at runtime, configures an asset to match the user interface theme by adjusting the luminosity of the pixels in the asset. A subset of pixels in the asset is matched to the color of a target background color by altering the luminosity of the subset of pixels in the asset to match the luminosity of the target background color. The luminosity of the remaining pixels is adjusted to match the theme.

Techniques are described herein for performing a dictionary-based dependency determination. For example, when a package is selected to be imported from a store (e.g., a database), a dictionary-based dependency operation may be performed to determine which elements of the package are dependent on other elements of the package. A dictionary includes indexes, each of which has at least one value. The indexes correspond to respective resources, and each value indicates an element of the package that produces the resource that corresponds to the respective index. If an element of the package consumes a resource, the indexes and corresponding values in the dictionary may be reviewed to determine which element(s) of the package produce that resource.

This document describes tools capable of validating and enabling validation of a package's structure. To do so, constraint grammar is provided that is capable of enabling a person to build a set of machine-readable constraints for a package's structure. Based on this set of constraints, a package validator module may accurately and automatically validate that a package's structure meets these constraints.

Next, it may be determined if the file includes a persistence element comprising a dataset. The dataset may contain the data associated with the reusable software component. Embodiments are provided for displaying components for visually designing logical structures or macros. In one embodiment, a logical surface component is displayed which may include a design surface. The design surface may be utilized to display data which make up one or more macros. The design surface may be selected for receiving macro data. The received data, which represents a macro design, may then be displayed in the design surface on a display device. In another embodiment, controls for navigating within logical surface components utilized for designing macros may be displayed on a display device. A logical surface component which includes a hierarchical grouping of macro actions may be displayed. One more actions may be selected and an instruction may be received in a visual interface to move selected actions among the hierarchical grouping. In response to receiving the move instruction, the selected actions which were moved may be displayed.

Embodiments are provided for rendering markup language data representing a macro as macro objects in a graphical user interface on a display device and for converting macro objects to markup language data. In one embodiment, markup language data representing the macro from a data source may be translated into macro objects for display in the graphical user interface in response to receiving a paste command in an application program. The macro objects visually represent the macro. The application program may automatically convert the markup language data into the macro objects. The macro objects are then automatically rendered in the graphical user interface. In another embodiment, a selection of macro objects displayed in the graphical user interface may be received via a copy command in the application program. In response to receiving the copy command, the application program may automatically convert the selected macro objects into markup language data.
