A wireless communication safety break device is disclosed which has an upper safety break portion having a fuel inlet, an upper portion check valve, an upper portion communications device, an upper portion contact point or switch, and a lower safety break portion having a fuel outlet, a lower portion check valve, a lower portion contact point or switch, and a locator device.

A dripless means for a fuel dispensing nozzle begins with a nozzle for dispensing fuel into automobile tanks. Regulations limit drainage of the spout to within ten seconds, met by the present invention that prevents fuel drops from exiting the spout. First, the spout retains fuel drops behind a dam made of a series of fins upon the interior of the spout. Second, the present invention has a bushing with a weir that works in combination with the damming. Third, the nozzle has a vent tube within the spout where a plug constricts its diameter to limit the fuel drawn into the vent tube. With proper use, the present invention retains fuel drops in the spout to meet the regulations.

Dripless means for a fuel dispensing nozzle

A fuel dispensing nozzle incorporating a lever assembly that enables a user to more easily and controllably dispense fuel through the nozzle. More particularly, the nozzle has a fuel flow path running through it, with an automatic fuel flow shutoff mechanism and a spring loaded valve assembly with an associated valve stem positioned along the fuel flow path above a lever assembly that regulates the flow of fuel through the nozzle. The lever assembly has a latch plate pivotally connected between the shutoff mechanism and a handle, such that the handle engages the valve stem to provide the user with more leverage to open the valve assembly than is available in conventional nozzle configurations.

Easy opening fuel dispensing nozzle

A fuel dispensing nozzle includes an inlet for the fuel being pumped, a spout for dispensing of the fuel, a poppet valve between the inlet and outlet, and a handle which is operable to move the poppet valve between an opened position in which fuel can flow from the inlet to the and a closed position in which fuel is prevented from flowing from the inlet to the spot. The poppet valve includes a valve member having a cap, a seal received on an under side of the cap, and a skirt, which is movable relative to the cap. The seal engages and is disengaged from the valve seat to close and open the valve. The valve member skirt has a sloped surface which engages the seal. The valve skirt is lifted by a valve stem, and when lifted, the valve member skirt engages the seal to progressively lift the seal off the valve seat. Conversely, when the stem is dropped, the valve member skirt causes the seal to progressively engage the valve seat, such that the valve does not substantially instantaneously go from a fully seated (or closed) position to a fully unseated (or opened) position (and vice versa).

Apparatus and method for monitoring pressure within a vapor recovery pathway of a vapor recovery fuel system including pressure transducer linked to a radio frequency (RF) transponder. The pressure transducer detects changes in vapor pressure within a vapor recovery pathway pressure and the RF transponder relays the information to a remote site for monitoring. The radio frecuency transponder can be housed within as spacer between the vapor recovery hose and the nozzle, mounted in the nozzle itself, the fuel delivery hose, or externally to any of these elements. The detected changes in vapor line pressure can be relayed to any of the fuel dispenser to actuate adjustments in the dispensing system such as vapor recovery pump speed or other parameters.

Pressure monitoring device for vapor recovery for fuel dispensing system

A pressure/vacuum vent of the present invention is mountable to the vent pipe of a storage tank. The vent includes a valve housing having a wall defining a chamber which is in fluid communication with said storage tank. It includes a first valve responsive to an over-pressure condition of a first pressure, a second valve responsive to an over-pressure condition at a second pressure; and a third valve responsive to an under-pressure condition. The first and second pressures are different so that one valve will open at a small pressure and the other will open at a larger pressure. The first valve is a poppet valve, and the second and third valves are diaphragm valves. The valve housing is contained in a vent housing. The vent housing includes a floor through with a bottom stem of the valve housing extends and which has drain holes. A cover is mounted to a top portion of the valve housing to cover the vent housing. The cover is spaced from a top of the vent housing.

Pilot operated pressure/vacuum vent for a fuel storage tank

A fluid extraction hose strider connector coupling assembly for use in a fuel nozzle associated with a coaxial vapor recovery hose. The coaxial hose is operatively connected to the spider connector assembly. The spider connector assembly contains a spider connector and an hose connector mounted in the handle of the fuel nozzle. The spider connector has a fluid flow path formed therethrough terminating in a nipple. A first small bore tubing extends from the nipple into the vapor recovery hose to a point where condensed vapors undesirably pool. The spider connector is rotatably connected to the hose connector while maintaining a fluid pathway between the spider connector and hose connector. The hose connector has a fluid pathway formed therethrough terminating in a nipple. A second small bore tubing extends from the nipple to a venturi in the nozzle. Positive pressure created by the venturi draws fluid from the vapor recovery hose through the first small bore tubing, through the spider, through the hose connector and second small bore tubing and to the fuel being dispensed out of the nozzle spout.

Fuel extraction coupling for nozzle

A fuel dispensing nozzle (10) has a body (12) in which a fuel passage is formed. A spout assembly (18) is attachable to the body in fluid communication therewith for fuel to flow from the body through the spout and into a tank (T). A valve (20) is interposed in the passage and controls fuel flow through the body. A flexible bellows (80) fits over the spout with the outer end (72) thereof sealingly engaging an inlet (I) of the tank to prevent fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. A control apparatus is responsive to movement of the bellows when the spout is inserted into the tank to open the valve, and to removal of the spout from the tank to close the valve. An apparatus (176) is responsive to the vapor pressure within the tank to effect closing of the valve when an overpressure condition occurs thereby to prevent vapor from escaping into the atmosphere. The apparatus includes first and second pivotally connected levers (132, 136) one of which moves in response to movement of the bellows and the other of which moves in response to the vapor pressure reaching a predetermined level indicative of the tank being substantially full to close the valve and prevent vapors from escaping.

Fuel dispensing nozzle improvement

A breakaway hose coupling for application within a fuel line, that prevents untimely decoupling, and avoids unnecessary leakage. The coupling includes a pair of fittings, for connecting to the fuel line, a sleeve provided for limited sliding movement upon one of the fittings, with each fitting incorporating a poppet valve, to provide for closure when decoupling occurs, or other unseating, from within the respect fittings, during normal coupling assembly and usage. Detents are provided within one of the fittings for interconnecting within a seating groove provided interiorly of the sleeve, to normally retain the coupling assembled, but various fastening rings, arranged within the sleeve and one of the fittings, provides for limited shiftable movement, occuring when tensioning force is exerted, to provide clearance for disconnection, while at the same time, said fastening rings capable of shifting, to provide for recoupling of the device together upon assembly. A fluid chamber is provided intermediate select of the fastening rings, to provide an equalization and counterbalancing of fluid pressures, when internal pressures spikes generated within the coupling and hose line occur, so as to prevent untimely disconnection, or leakage from the coupling, during routine usage.

An attitude control device for use in combination with a fuel dispensing nozzle, incorporating a connector that secures to the normally disposed vent tube provided within the spout of such a nozzle, the connector contains passages therein for venting of any nozzle generated vacuum to the atmosphere, but incorporates a cylinder held ball valve which when seats upon a valve seat, provided within the connector, functions to prevent any further venting of any generated vacuum, and immediately initiates a shut off of the fuel dispensing nozzle, and curtails any further flow of fuel through the same.

A butterfly valve provided within a disconnect of a fluid flow line, such as in a fuel dispensing system, incorporating a pair of decoupling members, at least one or a pair of butterfly valves mounted within and in proximity with location for disconnection of the conduit, the butterfly valve incorporating a valve disk held by a retainer and which is spring biased for snapping into closure against its valve seat, when disconnection occurs, to prevent the further flow of fuel from the conduit, or in the instance where a pair of the butterfly valves of this design, are incorporated proximate each of the disconnect members, upon severance of the conduit or hose at this location, effecting an immediate closure of both butterfly valves, preventing the discharge of any further fluid from the remaining separated parts of the fluid conduit. The specific construction of each butterfly valve incorporates a set of projections that normally mount upon shoulders of the valve retainer, and upon release, and pivoting of the disc towards closure, the projections ride within formed grooves for guiding the valve disk into a fluidic seal against a conveniently disposed valve seat, and said projections further facilitating the reopening of the butterfly valve upon flow of the fluid in an opposite direction.

This invention adds a fuel pressure sensitive piston at a location adjacent to the automatic shut off mechanism of a fuel dispensing nozzle. A lever responsive to the reciprocal movements of the piston biases against the diaphragm of the shut off mechanism raising it and disengaging its associated latch mechanism for release of the dispenser handle and closure of the nozzle poppet valve when there is no fuel being delivered from the pump. When there is fuel pressure from the pump at the inlet of the nozzle, the piston is forced in an opposite direction releasing its contact through a lever with said diaphragm and allowing the automatic shut off mechanism to routinely function.
