An ophthalmic lens comprising a front surface; a back surface; and one or more geometrically defined shapes and/or contour optical elements formed by changing the curvature of at least one of the front surface of the ophthalmic lens and/or a back surface of the ophthalmic lens; wherein the one or more geometrically defined shapes and/or contour optical elements on the surface of the ophthalmic lens are formed by applying a function to one or more parameters of the ophthalmic lens in a predefined region of the ophthalmic lens and in a predefined direction.

Methods and apparatus are provided for adaptively focusing a lens. In one approach, electromagnetic energy is employed to modify a shape or thickness of a lens such that its refractive power and focal length are modified. In one aspect, a lens embodying adaptive focus features requires low power, and can be adjusted quickly. One or a plurality of electromagnets can be employed to compress or separate end portions of an embedded haptic, the force from which acts to alter the shape of the haptic, thus modifying the refractive power and focal length of a lens.

Method and apparatus for an adaptive focus lens

An ophthalmic lens for treating myopia comprising: a base lens with a front surface, a back surface, and a first power profile selected to correct or substantially correct for a distance refractive error of the eye; one or more myopia control elements on at least one of the front and back surfaces of the lens; a first viewing region having a dimension selected based, at least in part, on a concentration of a pharmaceutical agent for use in conjunction with an ophthalmic lens, the first viewing region being configured to minimize, reduce and/or eliminate vision disturbances for distance vision; and a second viewing region comprising a power profile that is relatively more positive compared to the first viewing region; wherein at least one of the size of the second viewing region and the relatively more positive power of the second viewing region is selected based, at least in part, on the concentration of the pharmaceutical agent.

An ophthalmic lens comprising: at least one first optical zone with a first axis, the at least one first optical zone being configured such that, in use with an eye, at least a portion of light passing through the at least one first optical zone is refracted to a first focal point on the first axis; and at least one second optical zone configured such that, in use with the eye, at least a portion of light passing through the at least one second optical zone is refracted to one or more focal points positioned off-axis relative to the first focal point and on at least one focal plane different than a focal plane corresponding to the first focal point; wherein the at least one second optical zone is configured such that the light extending beyond the one or more focal points provides extended depth of focus.

Ophthalmic lenses for reducing, minimizing, and/or eliminating interference on in-focus images by out-of-focus light

A medical device including a pre-defined space such as a geometric shape or void. In one approach, the pre-defined space provides desired rigidity and more comfort for a user. There is also provided an approach which enables engravings and accommodates electronics, mechanical objects, or other rigid or unique shapes to be embedded within a medical device such as a contact lens. When adapted to swellable substrates, the resulting swelled material can leave a gap around a perimeter of embedded structure.

A silicone elastomer-silicone hydrogel hybrid contact lens comprises a silicone elastomer layer adhered to silicone hydrogel layer by a delamination-resistant bond. The silicone hydrogel layer has a percent swell of about &#x2212;5% up to about 20%. The silicone elastomer layer may have one or more objects embedded within it or adhered to its surface. Such objects may include variable-focus lenses and/or electronic components.
