Various embodiments of a network connection and termination system that provides managed network connection functionality to clients are described. In some embodiments, a network connection and termination system can enable service or application developers to un-bind a live network session from a specific backend server and migrate the live network session to a different backend server, without interrupting the network session and without network client cooperation. This is accomplished by a network connection manager being the actual endpoint for the network connections, instead of any backend resources. The network connection manager can be fault-tolerant. In some embodiments, it contains multiple nodes replicating the state of the network connections so that if one node fails, another can resume the connection in its place.

Network connection and termination system

A node of a network address translator obtains a first packet. A particular port number to be used as a substitute port for a packet flow associated with the first packet is determined using at least a first intermediate hash result, a particular flow hash value range assigned to the node, and a lookup table. The first intermediate hash result is obtained from a flow tuple of the first packet, and the lookup table comprises an entry indicating a mapping between the particular port number and a second intermediate hash result. A second packet, in which the source port is the set to the substitute port number, is transmitted to a recipient indicated in the first packet.

Port allocation at distributed network address translators

Disclosed are various embodiments for fragmentation of time-associated streaming data. A producer application receives a stream of time-associated data. The producer application then generates a first fragment of the stream of time-associated data and assigns a first unique fragment identifier and a first timestamp to the first fragment. The producer application sends the first fragment via a network using an application-layer protocol to an endpoint. The producer application receives at least one acknowledgement for the first fragment from the endpoint via the network using the application-layer protocol.
