Embodiments of the present invention enable a portable computing device such as a smartphone or a tablet computer, to capture one or more codes for one or more corresponding components positioned in proximity to the portable computing device, and to convey the one or more codes to a management system. Upon receiving the one or more codes, the management system can be configured to convey, to the portable computing device, an identification and a status of each of the one or more components. The portable computing device can then present the status of the one or more components on a display, and the one or more components are detected based on a distance of the portable device in relation to the one or more components such that when a plurality of the one or more components are in a field of view of the portable device.

Methods, systems and computer program products for operating a plurality of nodes within a network are provided. Using a monitoring node, a subgroup of the plurality of nodes is monitored, the subgroup including the monitoring node and a non-monitoring node. The non-monitoring node is configured to not manage a distributed database distributed among all monitoring nodes of the plurality of nodes, other non-monitoring nodes of the plurality of nodes, and the monitoring nodes of the plurality of nodes and is configured to not store replicated data from other ones of the plurality of nodes.

Distributed multi-system management

Methods, systems and computer program products for operating a plurality of nodes within a network are provided. Using a monitoring node, a subgroup of the plurality of nodes is monitored, the subgroup including the monitoring node and a non-monitoring node. The non-monitoring node is configured to not manage a distributed database distributed among all monitoring nodes of the plurality of nodes, other non-monitoring nodes of the plurality of nodes, and the monitoring nodes of the plurality of nodes and is configured to not store replicated data from other ones of the plurality of nodes. Information from the subgroup is exchanged with a monitoring node of another subgroup of the plurality of nodes over the network, using the monitoring node.

A method, including arranging multiple digital information devices having respective memories to communicate within a network, and assigning within each of a subset of the respective memories a respective memory region dedicated only to management of a respective subgroup of the multiple devices, the subset and the subgroup each having a cardinality of at least two. The multiple digital information devices are then managed by exchanging information stored in the respective memory regions among the digital information devices over the network.

An apparatus comprises multiple digital information devices arranged on a network and having respective memories, a subset of the respective memories each having a respective memory region assigned to manage a respective subgroup of the multiple digital information devices, the subset and the subgroup each having a cardinality of at least two, and a separate processor coupled to each of the respective memories and configured to manage the multiple digital information devices by exchanging information stored in the respective memory regions among the digital information devices over the network.
