A fastener for securing remnant-producing materials, a method of manufacturing the fastener, and a method of using the fastener are provided. The fastener is configured such that in use any remnants or slivers produced by rotation of the fastener are forcibly driven into the surface of the material. In one aspect, the fastener has two separate threaded portions, a first or lower threaded portion and a second or upper threaded portion. The threads on the lower threaded portion have a pitch that is different from the threads on the upper threaded portion. In one embodiment, the lower threaded portion threads have a larger pitch than the threads on the upper threaded portion. In use, after the lower threaded portion is completely inserted into the material, the upper threaded portion of the fastener enters the material. Because the upper threaded portion has threads that have a pitch that is different from the threads on the lower threaded portion, the threads on the upper threaded portion capture the remnants that have been extruded within or onto the surface of the material. As the fastener is completely inserted into the material, the remnants that have been extruded by the lower threaded portion of the fastener are substantially retained in the bore by the upper threaded portion of the fastener.

Screw

A fastener is provided comprising a shank having a head at one end and a tapered tip at the other end, and a threaded section having a helical thread on the shank. The fastener also comprises, on the head, side surfaces for engagement with a driving tool, and wherein each of the side surfaces has at least one rib formed thereon. Also provided is a method for driving a fastener, comprising providing a shank having a head at one end, a tip at the other end, and wherein the head comprises side surfaces for engagement with a driving tool, and wherein each of the side surfaces has at least one rib formed thereon. The method further comprises providing a driving tool having driving surfaces, and driving the fastener with the driving tool by engaging the driving surfaces of the driving tool with the at least one rib of the side surfaces of the head.

Ribbed fastener

A fastener for securing particle or bulge producing materials, a method of manufacturing the fastener, and a method of using the fastener are provided. The fastener has a thread on a shank, and a knurled portion disposed between the thread and a head. The fastener also may have at least one flute in the knurled portion, and may have at least one rib on the lower surface of the head. In use, the method is accomplished by inserting the fastener, by rotation, into a particle or bulge producing material, and producing particles or a bulge. Then, the method provides for transporting at least some of the particles from the particle producing material via the at least one flute, and securing the particle producing material to a base material. In a bulge producing material, the method provides for displacing the bulge into the material.

Screw having a knurled portion

A package for a plurality of products, having a closed container having a container wall, the wall defining a cavity for holding the products, and the wall having a product holder adapted to hold at least one selected product in a position visible from outside the container. The holder is an inwardly and/or outwardly opening recess formed in the wall, and the at least one selected product is positioned in the recess. The holder includes an outer member restraining the selected product to the outwardly opening recess, such as a packaging label, having a transparent portion forming a viewing window for viewing the selected product. In yet another aspect, the plurality of products in the cavity may be identical primary products, such as screws. The selected product may be different from the primary product, such as a driver bit for driving the screws.
