A heat exchanger has a fin pack, with a first supply header and a first return header at the first end of the fin pack. A first group of U-shaped tubes is provided with a first segment extending from the first supply header to the second end of the fin pack, and a second segment extending from the second end of the fin pack to the first return header. A second supply header and a second return header are also provided at the first end of the fin pack. A second group of U-shaped tubes is provided with a first segment extending from the second supply header to the second end of the fin pack, and a second segment extending from the second end of the fin pack to the second return header, where the second plurality of U-shaped tubes is disposed inwardly of the first plurality of U-shaped tubes.

An open-front refrigerated display case is provided having a medium temperature zone disposed above a low temperature zone in a generally vertically-stacked arrangement. A spillover airflow-diverting device is disposed between the medium temperature zone and the low temperature zone and is configured to direct spillover air from the medium temperature zone air curtain (and ambient air entrained therewith) in a direction away from the open front of the low temperature zone. The spillover airflow-diverting device may include louvers configured to direct a gravity-induced flow of the spillover air in an outward direction away from the open front of the low temperature zone, or may include fans to collect spillover air and forcibly direct it in an outward direction away from the open front of the low temperature zone. The outwardly directed spillover air may be discharged in the form of an 'outer layer' for an air curtain on the low temperature zone.

A defrost system for a temperature controlled storage unit includes an enclosure providing a space for storage of products. A refrigeration system has a supply line and a return line coupled to a cooling element to circulate a refrigerant through the cooling element to provide cooling to the space. A control module initiates a plurality of defrost modes on a predetermined frequency and for a predetermined duration by reducing a flow rate of the refrigerant through the cooling element so that a superheat temperature of the refrigerant in the cooling coil is increased to a predetermined range.
