A system and method capable of providing a cooperative network for applying countermeasures to airborne threats is provided. The system contains at least one aircraft having an airborne countermeasures system (ACS) capable of controlling deployment of countermeasures located on the aircraft. The system also contains a central countermeasures management system (CCMS) capable of communicating with the ACS to control the ACS in deployment of the countermeasures located on the aircraft. The aircraft may be one of a series of aircrafts, where each aircraft within the series of aircrafts has a separate ACS thereon, and where each separate ACS is capable of controlling deployment of countermeasures located on an aircraft within the series of aircrafts on which the separate ACS is located. When multiple aircrafts are within the network, the CCMS is capable of communicating with each separate ACS in response to the airborne threat, to control deployment of the countermeasures.

The present invention is an optical image system having at least a first camera including a first lens and at least a second sensor including a second lens. The system also includes at least one beam splitter for transmitting an incoming beam of electromagnetic radiation of at least a first band of wavelength to a focal plane array of the first camera and reflecting an incoming beam of electromagnetic radiation of at least a second band of wavelength to a focal plane array of the second camera. The first lens is positioned behind the beam splitter for focusing the beam of the first band of wavelength onto an image at the focal plane array of the first camera and the second lens is positioned behind the beam splitter for focusing the beam of the second band of wavelength onto the image at the focal plane array of the second camera.

A centroiding method is provided for an optical tracking system including a laser used for countermeasuring purposes in which a pencil thin laser beam is accurately positioned onto a target through the use of centroiding techniques for ascertaining the position not only of the target but also the laser beam, with the centroiding techniques resulting in a sub-pixel level resolution. The sub-pixel resolution permits utilization of smaller cost-effective focal plane arrays by giving the small focal plane array a resolution associated with much larger focal plane arrays.

An automatic system is provided for alerting ground personnel as to the existence of a threat to commercial aircraft in which the threat is determined by a classified system, but in which the local area network employed by the military missile warning is isolated from an unclassified local network coupled to the aircraft's transponder which transmits the threat existence and status to ground personnel. The barrier to transmitting classified information involves both filtering between the classified LAN and unclassified LAN, the use of only discrete signaling lines in the classified LAN isolated by opto-electronics to provide physical separation between the two local area networks, and communications formatting which precludes the transmission of classified information across the barrier between the classified local area network and the unclassified local area network.

Method and apparatus for reporting a missile threat to a commercial aircraft

A system and method for providing a covert warning notification of a hazard to an aircraft is provided. Generally, the system contains a detection system capable of detecting the hazard, and a transceiver capable of allowing the system to provide the covert warning to a location external from the aircraft. A memory and a processor are also provided within the system, where the processor is configured by the memory to perform the steps of: determining a category of radar system associated with a received signal; determining a modulation scheme, based on the determined category of radar system, for displaying an array of icons on the location external from the aircraft, the array of icons providing the covert warning; and using the received signal to provide the array of icons.

Method and system for providing a covert warning notification of a hazard to an aircraft

A method for identifying hostile missile launch locations is disclosed. In response to a receipt of a message containing information regarding a hostile missile had been launched at an aircraft, a determination is made as to whether or not a tail number contained within the message is a valid tail number for the aircraft. If the tail number contained within the message is a valid tail number for the aircraft, another determination is made as to whether or not the aircraft was at a valid location at the time the message was sent. If the aircraft was at a valid location at the time said message was sent, pertinent information are retrieved from the message in order to identify the exact launch location of the hostile missile.
