A jump rope handle for a jump rope. The jump rope comprises a handle portion having a receiving area. The handle portion has a non-linear axis which is adapted to be held by a hand of a user which does not require any bending of the wrist of the hand of the user. The handle comprises a mechanism for holding a rope. The holding mechanism mates with the receiving area to connect with the handle portion. A rubber rope made with a durometer less than 60 shore A. A method of a user exercising. The method comprises the steps of gripping a first handle of a jump rope with a right hand of the user. Then there is the step of gripping a second handle of the jump rope with a left hand of the user. Next there is the step of jumping the jump rope by the user while the user does not bend the wrist of either the right or left hand.

Weighted exercise apparatus and method

A protective device for a living body part of a user. The device includes a fluid bag adapted to be disposed about the body part. The fluid bag has fluid in its interior. The device includes a fluid supply connected to the fluid sensor which releases fluid into the bag when the sensor senses pressure and the bag reaches a predetermined level.

The apparatus includes a rubber coating disposed over the porous fabric and infiltrating through the porous fabric and bonding to the padding. A method for producing a wearing apparatus. The method includes the steps of attaching support wires to a neoprene laminate. Then there is the step of lowering the support wires with the neoprene laminate into a tank of liquid vinyl. Next there is the step of lifting the support wires with the neoprene laminate such that a coating of liquid vinyl remains on the neoprene laminate. Then there is the step of drying the liquid vinyl on the neoprene laminate.

Method and apparatus for wearing which is impervious to moisture

An apparatus for boxing. The apparatus includes clothing adapted to be worn by a boxer which protects the boxer from punches of another boxer. The apparatus includes a sensor mechanism which senses when a punch contacts the clothing. The sensor mechanism is in contact with the clothing. The apparatus includes a display mechanism which identifies when a punch contacts the clothing. The display mechanism is in communication with the sensor mechanism. A method for boxing. The method comprises the steps of punching clothing on a boxer which protects the boxer from punches. Then there is the step of sensing with a sensor mechanism in the clothing when a punch having at least the predetermined level of force contacts the clothing. Next there is the step of displaying with a displaying mechanism when a punch having at least the predetermined level of force contacts the display.

A novel, flexible composition is disclosed which contains reinforcement encased in intimate contact with a melt blended mixture of low durometer polymer gel. The reinforced polymer has unique properties obtained from the combination of reinforcement and elastomeric gel. Density, thermal conductivity, flexibility, elongation and strength are some of the properties which may be tailored by modifying the reinforcement and polymers. The combination of reinforcement with thermoplastic and oil create a gel and allows for deformation and impact resistance not obtainable with standard elastomers including vinyl, rubber or silicon. The addition of reinforcement makes it possible to tailor the gels properties while still maintaining many of its unique attributes. Particulate reinforced parts can be formed into a desired shape and take on some of the properties of the reinforcement. They can be deformed during use, but because these elastomeric gels have a high elastic memory, they return to their original shape. In addition, fiber reinforcement can be used to block deformation in specific directions. These and other properties make this system ideal for many applications including weights, shock absorbers, medical devices, seals, etc.

Reinforced thermoplastic elastomeric gel (RTEG)

A system for die casting including a die having a die cavity. There is also a vacuum chamber and a device for creating a vacuum in the vacuum chamber. The die casting system further includes an injection device for introducing a fluidically based material, such as molten metal, into the die cavity from the vacuum chamber. The injection device is in fluidic communication with the die cavity and is at least partially disposed within the vacuum chamber. The die casting system also includes a device for providing the fluidically based material into the injection device. The providing device is separated from the injection device and is preferably disposed within the vacuum chamber. A method of die casting includes the step of providing, such as by pouring, fluidically based material into an injection device within the vacuum chamber. Then, there is the step of forcing the fluidically based material into the die cavity with the injection device.

Vacuum die casting

The present invention pertains to a composite structure comprised of a matrix material, such as metal, and a plurality of cubic boron nitride particles dispersed within and surrounded by the matrix material. In a first embodiment, the composite structure is used as an electronic package to house an electrical device such as an integrated chip. The cubic boron nitride particles are dispersed within the matrix material in proportion such that the coefficient of thermal expansion of the package essentially matches that of the electronic devices. In another embodiment, the composite structure can be used as a thermal conductor, such as a heat sink. Since cubic boron nitride particles have the highest thermal conductivity of any ceramic, they act in combination with the matrix metal to transfer heat efficiently. In another embodiment, the composite structure can be used as a component subject to attrition. The cubic boron nitrides offer unexcelled wear resistance and transfer the heat efficiently.

Cubic boron nitride composite structure

The present invention is a system comprising an element having a specific coefficient of thermal expansion and a metal matrix composite having a coefficient of thermal expansion which essentially matches that of the element. The composite is in contact with the element such that heat can be transferred therebetween. The composite comprises reinforcement material infiltrated with a matrix material having magnesium or a magnesium alloy. If desired, inserts may be loaded into the mold to create specific features in the resulting composite. Other inserts such as other metals, tubes or leachable cores may be used to create features inside of the magnesium composite such as metal seal rings made out of kovar or stainless steel cooling channels or substrates. Preferably, magnesium is infiltrated, assisted by pressure, into reinforcement material to form a metal matrix composite comprised of a reinforcement material infiltrated with matrix material surrounded by a pure metal skin of magnesium. These magnesium composites with hermetic skins are ideal for many applications including electronic packages for housing an electronic component because they offer lighter weight and high conductivity. The present invention is also a method which comprises the steps of forming a metal matrix composite comprised of reinforcement material filled with a matrix material having magnesium such that the composite has a specific coefficient of thermal expansion. Then, there is the step of connecting an element, such as an electronic device, having a coefficient of thermal expansion which essentially matches that of the composite to the composite.

Magnesium composite electronic packages

A method of forming a metal matrix composite. The method comprises the steps of surrounding at least one insert with reinforcement material. Next, there is the step of orienting the insert and reinforcement material within a mold. Then, there is the step of infiltrating the mold with liquid metal such that the reinforcement material around the insert is infiltrated. A package comprising a metal matrix composite formed of reinforcement material infiltrated with metal. The package also comprises an insert supported in the reinforcement material by the metal. An electronic package comprising a first wall and a second wall integrally connected and extending in a continuous manner from the first wall. The first wall and second wall are a metal matrix composite formed of reinforcement material infiltrated with metal. The metal extends continuously from the first wall to the second wall. Additionally, there is an insert disposed in the reinforcement material and supported by the metal. A cooling panel comprised of a first layer of metal sheet. The cooling panel is also comprised of a layer of metal matrix composite formed of woven reinforcement fibers infiltrated with metal in contact with the first layer. Additionally, the cooling panel is comprised of a second layer of metal sheet in contact with the composite layer. The composite layer is disposed between the first layer and the second layer.

Package and a method of forming a metal matrix component with internal

The present invention describes a component with an in-situ formed insulator and a method of forming a component of the same. The method includes the step of orienting an insulator in a mold. Then, there is the step of introducing molten material, such as metal into the mold about the insulator to form a component having a cast-in electrical feed-through. Preferably, the feed-through is hermetically sealed within the component. In one embodiment, the insulator has at least one hole and the introducing step includes the step of filling the mold with molten metal to bond the metal to the insulator and to fill the hole with metal. Preferably, after the introducing step, there is the step of removing any skin of metal between metal within the hole and metal outside of the insulator. After the removing step, there can be the steps of drilling a hole into the metal within the insulator and inserting a conductor into the hole. The conductor can be brazed or cemented to the metal within the insulator. In another embodiment, before the introducing step, there is the step of disposing a conductor within a hole of the insulator. Preferably, after the introducing step, there is the step of removing any skin of metal between the conductor and the metal of the component. If desired, before the introducing step, there can be the step of placing reinforcement, such as a preform, within the mold and the introducing step includes the step of forcing molten metal into the mold to infiltrate the reinforcement.

Cast-in hermetic electrical feed-throughs

The present invention is a method of cooling. The method comprises the steps of positioning material in a liquid state within a chamber. Then, there is the step of providing pressurized fluid about the chamber to form a thermal gradient across the chamber to directionally cool the material within. Preferably, the positioning step includes the step of positioning a mold with a mold chamber having material in a liquid state in the mold chamber, within an interior of a pressure vessel. Preferably, the providing step includes the step of introducing fluid, such as gas, into the pressure vessel such that the fluid that initially enters the pressure vessel is heated to a greater temperature than fluid subsequently introduced into the pressure vessel due to the fluid absorbing heat from the interior of the pressure vessel. The fluid at the greater temperature rises to the top of the pressure vessel and forces cooler fluid down so that a thermal gradient is formed in the pressure vessel such that the temperature of the fluid about the top of the mold allows the material within the top of the mold to remain at a higher temperature than the material within the bottom of the mold to induce directional cooling of the material in the mold from the bottom of the mold. For instance, a thermal gradient can be formed which allows the material in the top of the mold to remain molten while the material in the bottom of the mold directionally solidifies. The cooling of a casting in a pressurized environment drastically reduces the cooling time of the casting to room temperature. In a preferred embodiment, the step of introducing fluid into the pressure vessel can serve the dual purpose of forcing the liquid material into the mold chamber and forming the thermal gradient.

Method of directionally cooling using a fluid pressure induced thermal

The apparatus comprises a vessel having an interior. A mold is disposed within the interior of the vessel. A casting material is contained in the interior of the vessel. The apparatus also comprises a mechanism for providing the casting material to the mold in a manner such that vapors of the casting material are prevented from communicating with the interior of the vessel. The providing mechanism is in communication with the vessel. The providing mechanism comprises an inner chamber within which the mold and casting material are contained in. The providing mechanism further comprises a mechanism for heating the inner chamber, such as heating coils. The heating mechanism is disposed within the interior of the vessel adjacent to the inner chamber. Preferably, the inner chamber has a tube extending therefrom having a filter element, disposed therein for catching vapors of the casting material. Preferably, the tube extends through the vessel such that the interior of the vessel and the inside of the inner chamber are fluidically isolated from each other.

Low vapor point material casting apparatus and method

A method and system for producing a continuous supply of low volume fraction composite material that can be fed continuously into one or more molds. Composite inputs are fed into a mixing device such that a continuous supply of mixed composite material is available from the output side of the mixing device. The operation removes the step of creating master ingots and removes the need for a two step process in which the material is melted twice. This invention reduces the cost of producing composite components, reduces batch-to-batch variations, and allows for a continuous production flow. In addition, the invention allows for a much greater flexibility in the selection and optimization of material systems.
