Novel graft copolymers of shellac and a polyalkyleneglycol monomethacrylate are prepared. These graft copolymers are useful in preparing water-based flexographic, i.e. packaging laminating inks, comprised of a pigment; the graft copolymer; a binder resin; an alkanol; an alkali, ammonia or an amine; and water.

Shellac/polyalkyleneglycol monomethacrylate graft copolymers

Quaternized oligourethanes, useful as dispersing agents in preparing high-solids pigment concentrates for use in manufacturing inks, especially inks intended for use in gravure and packaging applications. The novel oligourethanes are prepared by reacting an appropriate ester or alcohol with a hydroxyethylimidazoline and polyisocyanate followed by quaternization with acids or alkyl derivatives of acids.

Semi-polar hyperdispersants for pigment bases

Novel vehicles for printing inks are thermoplastic alcohol-soluble low molecular weight poly(amide-ester) resins that are prepared by a two-step process from a dimerized fatty acid, a polyamine, and a bisphenol A-epichlorohydrin epoxy resin.
