A method for managing inbound user traffic to a reservation system. The method includes receiving messages from one or more users and determining, by one or more computer processors, at least one of the one or more users is not a preferred user, based on the messages received. The method further includes sending the messages from the at least one user to a limiting component, wherein the limiting component slows the messages from the at least one of the one or more users to the reservation system.

Routing preferred traffic within a reservation system

A newly defined facsimile (fax) handling service, to be performed by carriers in the public switched telephone network (PSTN) on calls originating from standard analog fax sending equipment, includes: a) intercepting and recording direct dialed digits, representing final destinations of such calls, at PSTN switching nodes in areas local to respective call origins; b) returning acknowledgements from these nodes to respective callers in the form of fax tones corresponding to those usually returned by standard analog fax receiving equipment; c) locally intercepting and recording signals representing the fax image information intended for delivery to the called destinations; d) returning a completion signal indication to the originating equipment; and e) offline to the originating equipment, managing the delivery of the recorded image information to the final destinations represented by the recorded call digits.

Selective fax routing through the internet

A name space registry manages name space data within a computer operating system including configuration and initialization data. The registry provides access to the configuration information by means of an application program interface (API) for programs which can operate with the name space registry. Backward source-code compatibility is provided for older applications by maintaining configuration and initialization files that the older applications use to store configuration and initialization data under their traditional file names and with the traditional contents. Thus the older applications can directly access these files. The registry provides newer programs access to these configuration and initialization files through API program calls.

A method for application registration and tracking for DOS and OS/2 software, independent of the mechanism in which the application is distributed and installed. The invention allows other application registration and tracking techniques to co-exist without affecting/impacting each other. This truly is an 'open' packaging, registration and tracking invention which allows PC-software to be better managed in a network.

Login files necessary to successfully boot a computer and corresponding to a preselected, minimal system configuration are stored in a predetermined location in a selected non-volatile mass storage device attached to the computer. These latter login files are not configurable by the user. During a boot process, the boot program first attempts to boot the system using the conventional user-configured login files. However, after a predetermined number of attempts to boot the system using the user-configured files, the boot process switches to the minimal system files and boots the system using these files.
