A luminaire comprises a light guide having light outcoupling elements at one side and a flat light output surface at the other side, which is visible in use of the luminaire. An array of solid state lighting elements is arranged around the edge of the light guide facing the general light output direction. A respective reflector is associated with each solid state lighting element for reflecting light into the light guide. By providing the lighting elements all facing the general light output direction, they can be formed as a single unit, or as a small number of sub-units, thereby simplifying the manufacture. The design of the reflectors, the positioning of the lighting elements, and the design of the light outcoupling elements together may be used to create an asymmetrical light output beam shape. Actuation of different lighting elements may be used to provide different asymmetric light outputs.

Luminaire with light guide

The invention provides a luminaire for illuminating a road, comprising a light source (), a reflector arrangement () defining a light entrance window () at the top to which light is supplied by the light source () and a larger light exit window () at the bottom, and an optical plate () over the light exit window (). The optical plate () comprises an array of elongate prisms which each extend in a side-to-side direction corresponding to the width direction of the road. The reflector () is primarily responsible for control of the light output in the road width direction and the optical plate () is primarily responsible for control of the light output in the road length direction.

Luminaire, especially for road lighting

An apparatus () for profiling the depth of a surface of a target object (), having a two-dimensional array of lasers (), an optical device () for projecting a two-dimensional illumination pattern () onto an area of the surface of the target object, an image capture device () arranged to capture an image of the two-dimensional illumination pattern projected onto the area of the surface of the target object and a processor () configured to process the captured image in order to reconstruct a depth profile of the two-dimensional area of the surface of the target object from the image captured by the image capture device.

Apparatus and method for profiling a depth of a surface of a target object

A lighting unit comprising a tapering cavity surrounded by a circumferential reflective wall and extending between a light emission window and a light entrance surface where a light source is (to be) mounted. An optical plate having a light outcoupling structure is provided at the light emission window for redirecting and issuing light as a uniform lighting unit light beam. Said uniform lighting unit light beam has a first beam emission angle &#x3b2; in a first direction and optionally, for example for a rectangular shaped light emission window, a second beam emission angle &#x3b3; in a second direction transverse to the first direction.
