This disclosure describes micro, sub-micro, and nano-cellular polymer foams formed from a polymer composition that includes a polymer and functionalized carbon nanotubes, and systems and methods of formation thereof. The microcellular polymer foam has an average pore size within a range of 1 micron to 100 microns, the sub-microcellular polymer foam has an average pore size within a range of 0.5 microns to 1 micron, and the nano-cellular polymer foam has an average pore size within a range of 10 nanometers to 500 nanometers. In other aspects, this disclosure describes micro, sub-micro, and nano-cellular polymer foams formed from a polymer composition that includes a polymer and non-functionalized carbon nanotubes.

A foamable poly carbonate composition comprising 5 to 95 wt % of a poly(siloxane) block copolymer comprising a poly(carbonate-siloxane) comprising 50 to 99 wt % of bisphenol A carbonate units and 1 to 50 wt % of dimethylsiloxane units, each based on the weight of the poly(carbonate-siloxane), a poly(ester-carbonate-siloxane) comprising bisphenol A carbonate units, isophthalate-terephthalate-bisphenol A ester units, and 5 to 200 dimethyl siloxane units, or a combination thereof; 5 to 95 wt % of an auxiliary component comprising a poly(alkylene ester), a poly(ester-carbonate), or a combination thereof, and optionally, a homopolycarbonate; optionally, up to 10 wt % of an additive composition, wherein the composition has a glass transition temperature of 140° C. and below measured using differential scanning calorimetry, and wherein a foamed sample of the composition has an average cell size of 10 nanometers to 20 micrometers.

Low temperature foamable polycarbonate composition and articles thereof

An electrically conductive thermoplastic composition is prepared by melt blending a polymer and a masterbatch of carbon nanotubes in wax having a melting point of about 45 to about 150&#xb0; C. The masterbatch of carbon nanotubes in wax is more easily prepared than a conventional carbon nanotube masterbatch in high molecular weight polymer. Use of the masterbatch of carbon nanotubes in wax also improves the melt flow properties of the electrically conductive thermoplastic composition.

A flame-retardant polymer composition includes specific amounts of polyamide, acid-functionalized poly(phenylene ether), polyimide, and metal dialkylphosphinate. The composition, which exhibits improved flame retardancy and tensile modulus relative to known blends of poly(phenylene ether), polyamide, and polyimide, is useful for forming electrical components, such as photovoltaic junction boxes and connectors, inverter housings, automotive electrical connectors, electrical relays, and charge couplers.

A method of incorporating an additive into a polyamide-poly(arylene ether) composition includes the step of melt blending a polyamide, a poly(arylene ether), and a dispersion comprising a liquid carrier, an unmodified clay, and an additive. Using the dispersion rather than a polymer-based additive masterbatch saves energy. Like a polymer-based masterbatch, the dispersion provides the additive in a diluted form and therefore preserves the masterbatch's advantages of providing more uniform distribution additive in the plastic and avoiding direct handling of additives in the final compounding step.

Method of incorporating an additive into a polyamide-poly(arylene ether) composition, composition prepared thereby, and article comprising the composition

A composition comprises a poly(arylene ether), a polyamide, electrically conductive filler, an impact modifier, and wollastonite wherein the wollastonite particles have an average length to diameter ratio less than or equal to 5 and a median particle size of 2 to 5 micrometers. Methods of making the composition are also described.
