A mobile, remotely controlled robot comprising a robot drive subsystem for maneuvering the robot, a turret on the robot, a turret drive for moving the turret, a noise detection subsystem for detecting the probable origin of a noise, a robot position and movement sensor subsystem, a turret position sensor subsystem, and one or more processors, responsive to the noise detection subsystem, the robot position and movement sensor subsystem. The turret position sensor subsystem is configured to control the turret drive to orient the turret to aim a device mounted thereto at the origin of the noise and to maintain said aim as the robot moves.

A line charge system includes a sock with a series of explosive sections and a detonation cord attached to each explosive section. A pair of spaced tubes made of explosive material are disposed about the line and secured to the explosive material of each section resulting in a hinged connection between each explosive section and the detonation cord.

Adhesive systems may be fabricated to include first and second solid adhesion structures. The first adhesion structure may require an applied normal preload force to achieve adhesion to a surface. The second solid adhesion structure may be separate from but joined to the first adhesion structure such that both adhesion structures are jointly adherable to the surface upon application of the normal preload force.

A ballistically deployed restraining net system including a cartridge receivable within a barrel, the cartridge having a base and an opposing open end. There is a restraining net packaged in the cartridge and a set of weights attached to the restraining net and packaged within the cartridge between the base of the cartridge and the restraining net. A deployment charge ejects the restraining net and the set of weights out of the barrel and out of the cartridge and a spreader charge deploys the weights after the net and the set of weight exit the cartridge so that the weights overtake the net in flight.

A false target deployment system including an inflatable and collapsible decoy packaged in a munition for deploying the decoy in its collapsed state from an actual target at risk due to a potential threat. The decoy is rapidly inflated during deployment and the decoy includes coatings and/or other devices for emulating the infrared, radar and/or laser reflectivity characteristics of the actual target thereby providing a false target for the threat.

Methods and apparatus for monitoring the compaction of backfill material in an excavation include hammer structure for impacting backfill material in the excavation, a sensor module for disposition at the bottom of the excavation to be backfilled that includes a transducer for developing an electric signal in response to energy transmitted through backfill material from the hammer structure, and a control module responsive to electric signals from the sensor module for providing an indication of the quality of compaction of backfill material in the excavation.
