A semiconductor laser module comprises a tapered laser diode and/or a tapered amplifier diode equipped with beam shaping optics. The tapered laser diode and/or the tapered amplifier diode includes an emission facet for emitting a laser beam along a beam axis. The beam-shaping optics comprise a plano-convex cylindrical lens oriented so as to change divergence of the beam in the fast axis direction, the plano-convex spherical cylindrical lens having a planar surface arranged facing the facet and a circular cylindrical surface facing away from the facet. The refractive index of lens may be uniform throughout the entire lens. Alternatively, the lens may have a refractive index varying in the direction of the slow axis and/or in the direction of the fast axis.

Semiconductor laser module

A semiconductor laser module () comprises a tapered laser diode () and/or a tapered amplifier diode equipped with beam shaping optics (). The tapered laser diode and/or the tapered amplifier diode includes an emission facet () for emitting a laser beam () along a beam axis (). A monolithic, side pumped solid-state laser () comprising a laser resonator structure () comprised of a laser gain medium () having a longitudinal axis (L), wherein the laser resonator structure () comprises end faces () forming a linear optical path resonant cavity there between, at least one of the end faces () comprising at least partially reflecting laser mirrors () in particular deposited thereon, the laser gain medium () comprising a side face () for receiving pump light () of a pump source (), wherein the pump light () is generated by a diode laser (), and comprising a conductive cooler () comprising contact faces () contacting the laser gain medium (), and comprising a reflector () arranged opposite to the side face () with respect to the longitudinal axis (L), wherein the laser gain medium () is a low gain material.

Monolithic, side pumped solid-state laser and applications thereof

A laser device () for ablating a biological tissue (), comprising: a) a laser source () that is configured to emit a laser beam (); b) optics () configured to modify the laser beam () such as to direct the laser beam () on the biological tissue (); d) a controller () that is configured to control the laser source () to emit the laser beam () to create an ablation in biological tissue (), whereby e) a sensor () being configured to receive back scattered light from the biological tissue (); f) a tissue controller () that is operationally coupled to the sensor () to receive a sensor signal (Ri) of the sensor (); and g) the tissue controller () being configured to compare a series of at least two consecutive sensor signals (R, R, R, . . . ) and being configured to generate a tissue control signal (TCS) when the value of the series of consecutive sensor signals (R, R, R, . . . ) decreases in a predetermined amount.
