A press assembly has a plurality of processing stations for the processing of sheets. These processing stations are arranged in succession in a transport direction of the sheets for inline processing of the sheets. At least one of these processing stations is a non-impact printing unit and at least one processing station downstream of the non-impact printing unit is embodied as a dryer. At least one additional processing station is embodied as a coating unit. The coating unit is configured for applying a coating in a form of a varnish to each sheet. A plurality of individually controlled, non-impact printing units are arranged along the transport path of the sheets. Each of the plurality of non-impact printing units is configured as an ink jet printer.

A method and machine arrangement for sequential processing of sheet-like substrates are disclosed. At least one of a front side and a rear side of the substrates is processed in a production line one after another. A printing ink or another type of ink is applied in at least one non-impact printing device on the respective side of the substrates. The printing ink or the other type of ink is dried. A dispersion coating or a coating cured by UV radiation is then applied onto the respective side of the substrates. The dispersion coating or the coating cured by UV radiation is dried and the substrates are fed to a mechanical processing device for carrying out a further mechanical processing of the substrates. The further mechanical processing is performed by at least one of punching, inserting grooves, separating parts and by breaking out panels from their respective composite in the respective substrate.

Method and printing press arrangements for sequential processing of sheet-like substrates

A turning device in a sheet-processing machine includes a sheet-guiding drum. The sheet-guiding drum has at least one gripper system for securing a front edge of a sheet. The sheet-guiding drum also has at least three casing segments cooperating in the circumferential direction and engaging with one another during format adjustment. A method for the format adjustment of a sheet-guiding drum is also disclosed. The object of the invention is to further improve the sheet guiding on format-adjustable sheet-guiding drums in sheet-processing machines. This is achieved in that a middle casing segment in the circumferential direction has a drive.

A system for driving the damping roller in rotary printing machines. The system has a driving mechanism for the damping roller, while the plate cylinder is being driven separately by an individual driving mechanism, for realizing the delta mode of operation. In this mode of operation, the driving mechanism of the damping roller can be disengaged through a switchable transmission from the driving gear train and connected with the individual driving mechanism of the plate cylinder.

A method for operating a printing press, which enables a uniform print quality to be achieved during long periods of operation without replacement of the impression cylinder. The printing press comprises several printing units having impression cylinders and a sheet turning device disposed between the printing units. The invention can include a device for taking hold of the sheets. The invention also relates to altering a device so that, independently of the material to be processed, a last sheet of a sheet stream can be easily aligned. This objective is accomplished as follows: after the last sheet is detected and its front edge has been placed against the front guide stops, the operation of the suction belt is stopped.

A method for producing multicolor printing, by using printing plates provided digitally with images and/or print, represents an efficient solution for multi-color printing, in particular in a large format. Printing plates, which had been used in a printing press, are removed from the printing form cylinders, are sent to a device for neutralization, and are neutralized. The neutralized printing plates are fixed at correct registration in an exposure and development unit where they are exposed and developed. The printing plates provided with new images are again applied to the printing form cylinder.
