The present invention relates to a skin radiation apparatus and method. The apparatus includes a photon radiation unit for generating a line-shaped radiation pattern that extends in a first direction; a movement facility for moving the line shaped radiation pattern in a second direction transverse to the first direction; a detection unit for detecting a skin condition profile; and a control unit for controlling the line-shaped radiation pattern, dependent on the detected skin condition profile.

High-pressure gas discharge lamp

A reflector lamp is described which consist essentially of a light source, in particular in the form of a high-pressure gas discharge lamp (HID [high intensity discharge] lamp or UHP [ultra high performance] lamp), as well as a main or secondary reflector (), and a primary reflector () by means of which light from the light source () can be reflected through the light source () onto the main reflector (). The primary reflector () is arranged such that those regions of the main reflector () are obscured which are optically inactivated regions, for example because of a lead-through and/or a fastening device for the lamp, which have no reflection properties, or which have reflection properties that adversely affect the radiation characteristic of the reflector lamp. The reflector lamp is particularly suitable for projection applications because of its high luminous efficacy. Furthermore, a substantially automated and accordingly cost-effective assembly of the lamp is possible.

An illumination unit has a light source, in particular a high-intensity discharge lamp or an ultra high performance lamp, a main reflector and a back reflector with an aperture opposite the main reflector. Light is reflected from the light source through the aperture onto the main reflector. The centers of the light source and the back reflector are located or shaped relative to each other such that a first sector angle (L&#x2013;L') enclosed between the light source center and the edge of the back reflector aperture is smaller than 180&#xb0;. The efficiency of light emission is considerably increased. Preferred embodiments, each of which can cause a further increase in light output, relate to various shapes of the back reflector and the inner walls of the gas discharge space, as well as to the shape of the part of the glass bulb that surrounds the gas discharge space.

Illumination unit

The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp with a substantially elongate bulb which has two neck regions and a vacuumtight discharge chamber in a central position. The invention further relates to a reflector lamp and a projection system comprising such a high-pressure discharge lamp. A disadvantage of known lamps is formed by the too high temperatures of critical components. According to the invention, therefore, it is suggested that the high-pressure discharge lamp is provided at least partly with a reflection layer at least in a neck region. The reflection layer reflects radiation in the entire spectrum (ultraviolet, visible, infrared) and is used in particular as a heat shield layer which reflects the radiation incident on the neck region at the lamp end and acting as heat radiation, so that an additional heating is prevented or at least reduced.
