The disclosure relates to a doppler division multiplexing (DDM) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar system. Example embodiments include a DDM MIMO radar system () comprising: a transmitter () connected to a plurality of transmitter antennas () via a corresponding plurality of signal paths () of different electrical lengths (L) such that a phase of a signal transmitted by the transmitter () is different at each of the plurality of transmitter antennas ().

Radar system

The disclosure relates to a radar system comprising multiple synchronized transceivers. Example embodiments include a radar system () comprising: a plurality of radar transceiver units (-), each configured to operate according to a low frequency clock signal (), and configured to generate an intermediate frequency signal () and a modulated high frequency signal () for transmitting and receiving radar signals; and a microcontroller unit () configured to provide control signals to each transceiver unit (-) to synchronize operation thereof, wherein each radar transceiver unit (-) is configured to provide received radar data (RX) and a monitoring signal (-) to the microcontroller unit (), the monitoring signal (-) derived by frequency dividing and combining the modulated high frequency signal and intermediate frequency signal, and wherein the microcontroller unit () is configured to derive and compensate for phase and frequency differences between the received radar data (RX) from each transceiver (-) based on the monitoring signals (-) provided by each transceiver unit (-).

The disclosure relates to patch antennas for radar or communications applications. Example embodiments include an antenna comprising: a substrate; a ground plane on a first face of the substrate; and a patch antenna on an opposing second face of the substrate, the patch antenna having a lead extending along a central axis and connected to a rectangular radiating element, wherein the rectangular radiating element comprises two slots on opposing sides of the central axis such that the patch antenna has two resonant frequencies within an operating frequency range of the antenna.

Patch antenna

A method () of detecting an object using a radar system is disclosed. The method comprises transmitting () a first radar beam having a first frequency and first radiation pattern () from an antenna (), the first radiation pattern comprising a peak at zero azimuth angle, and detecting () a first signal from the object due to a reflection of the first radar beam. A second radar beam having a second frequency and second radiation pattern () is transmitted () from the antenna (), the second radiation pattern comprising a peak at a non-zero azimuth angle. A second signal due to a reflection of the second radar beam from the object is detected (), and the first signal and the second signal compared () to determine an angular location of the object relative to the zero azimuth angle.

Method of detecting an object

A radar module () comprises a low temperature co-fired ceramic, LTCC, substrate (), with a radar chip () attached to a first surface () of the LTCC substrate () and a transmitting antenna () for transmitting the radar signal attached to a second surface () of the LTCC substrate (). The radar chip () is configured to generate a radar signal for transmission. The transmitting antenna () is configured to communicate with the radar chip () through the LTCC substrate (). The radar module () further comprises a beam steering element () configured to introduce a phase delay to the radar signal in order to adjust a first component of a direction of transmission of the radar signal.

Radar module

A wireless communication unit () is described that comprises: at least one receiver configured to receive a radio frequency signal on at least one receiver channel () and comprising a plurality of receiver circuits; at least one interference detection circuit () coupled to an output of at least one of the plurality of receiver circuits and configured to detect a saturation event of a signal output from the at least one of the plurality of receiver circuits; and a controller () configured to identify interference in a received signal. The at least one interference detection circuit () comprises at least one counter () configured to count a number of saturation events in at least one of the plurality of receiver circuits over a time limited period; and at least one comparator () coupled to the at least one counter () and configured to compare a count value of the number of saturation events from the at least one counter () with a counter threshold to indicate a presence of interference in the signal, when the counter threshold is exceeded.

Wireless communication unit, interference detection circuit and method for interference detection

A system for register error detection is described, the system comprising: a plurality of addressable registers comprising sets of registers, the registers in each set having contiguous addresses; a cyclic redundancy check generator coupled to the addressable registers and configured to determine a cyclic-redundancy-check result for each set of registers from the values of each of the respective set of registers; a controller coupled to the registers and the cyclic-redundancy-check generator. The controller comprises a cyclic-redundancy-check calculator and is configured to determine an expected cyclic-redundancy-check result from expected values for each of the set of registers, to read the cyclic-redundancy-check result for each of the set of registers determined by the cyclic-redundancy-check generator, and to compare the generated cyclic-redundancy-check result with the calculated cyclic-redundancy-check result and wherein a difference between the generated cyclic-redundancy-check result and the calculated cyclic-redundancy-check result is indicative of an error condition.
