A prosthetic acetabular cup inserter and impactor has an expandable annular cup engaging element to engage the inner surface of a cup to be inserted in the acetabulum. An expander is provided for expanding the cup engaging element which is connected to one end of a handle via a hollow or partly hollow extension portion. The other end of the handle is provided with an anvil. An elongate operator is located within the extension portion and connected to the cup engaging element. A device is provided for moving the elongate operator to pull the cup engaging element towards the expander.

Prosthetic acetabular cup inserter and impactor

A prosthetic acetabular cup inserter and impactor has a body, a cup engaging element disposed at a first end of the body which is adapted to engage an inner surface of a cup with which it is used. An operating system is adapted to axially rotate the cup engaging element in relation to the body in use. An impaction plate that is adapted to engage an undulating rim of the cup is disposed between the body and the cup engaging element. The impaction plate is connected to the operating system by a linkage which acts to axially rotate the impaction plate in unison with the cup engaging element in use.

A prosthetic acetabular cup inserter and impactor has a body, and a cup engaging element disposed at a first end of the body and adapted to engage an inner surface of a cup with which it is used via outward biasing of the cup engaging element. The cup engaging element increases in cross-sectional area from an inner end thereof to a fullest transverse section, and decreases in cross-sectional area from said fullest transverse section to an outer end thereof. The cup engaging element has a tapered central bore engaged by a conically tapered actuation element moveable in the bore. The cup engaging element has a slot therethrough allowing the element to resiliently expand on movement of the actuator in the bore.

A greater trochanter re-attachment device for use in transfemoral revision surgery which comprises a bracket adapted to be attached to a femoral prosthesis with which it is to be used. The bracket has adjustable clamping elements adapted to extend from the brackets and pass around the segment of bone containing the greater trochanter and which when secured in position holds the greater trochanter in position in relation to the femoral prosthesis.

A hip prosthesis has a cup element having a part-spherical inner bearing surface and a spherical center through which the plane of a diametrical equator extends, and a ball shaped head which has a diameter to cooperate with the inner bearing surface to allow movement therein. The cup has a flat cordal lower surface parallel to the plane of an equator of the ball. The inner bearing surface has two or more equally spaced extension portions which extend beyond the diametrical equator towards the mouth of the cup. The surfaces of the two or more portions are relieved to enable the ball shaped head to be inserted into the cup by moving the flat on the ball across the face of one of the bearing surface extension portions and then rotating ball head to a position in which the flat on the ball head faces the mouth of the cup.

Acetabular cup for a hip prosthesis

A targeting apparatus for use in performing endofemoral osteotomy surgery has a support element provided with a drill guide. The apparatus has a connector for securing a support element to the proximal end of a prosthesis to be implanted. The apparatus includes a proximal location element which is shaped to extend around the great trochanter and muscle of the femur in which the implant is to be located. An adjustor is provided for adjusting the angular position of the drill guide in relation to the femur about a proximal-distal axis.

A targeting apparatus for use in performing transfemoral osteotomy surgery includes a support element provided with a drill guide. A device is provided for securing the support element to a prosthesis to be implanted, and to a resectioned femur. An adjusting device for adjusting the angular position of the drill guide in relation to the resectioned femur about a proximal-distal axis is also included.

Targeting apparatus for use in performing transfemoral osteotomy

A targeting apparatus for use in resectioning a femur when performing transfemoral osteotomy surgery has a drill guide element which includes a line of drill openings each of which is adapted to guide a drill for drilling holes in the femur. A connector is provided for securing the drill guide element to a femur to be resectioned with the line of openings extending in a proximal/distal direction along the femur.
