A coated conductor is provided with improved electrical connection between the conductive layers such as the high temperature superconductor layer and a metal protection layer applied onto the high temperature superconductor layer and the substrate. A method includes obtaining such electrical connection, in particular, creating a coated conductor wherein the substrate is a core covered with the layers all around its periphery.

A superconductive cable includes a superconductive conductor (), a dielectric () enclosing the latter and a superconductive screen () arranged over the dielectric acting as a spacer. The cable is enclosed with the inclusion of an air gap by a cryostat () which consists of a metal inner tube (), a metal outer tube () and super insulation () arranged between them. An intermediate metal tube (), which is closed all around over its entire length, is arranged over the screen () while leaving a gap () from the cryostat (). A medium which is fluid at room temperature, and to which a constant pressure is applied, is introduced as an impregnating medium for the dielectric () into the space between the conductor () and the intermediate tube (), and at least one refrigeration unit for supplying a liquid refrigerant is connected to the gap () between the cryostat () and the intermediate tube ().

A method for laying a superconductor cable having a superconductive cable core and a cryostat enclosing the superconductive cable core, with the superconductive cable core being arranged freely mobile in the cryostat. The method includes cooling the superconductive cable core to the operating temperature after laying the superconductor cable, shortening the superconductive cable core relative to the cryostat, fixing the superconductive cable core at its ends; and mounting terminations on the ends of the cable core.

Method of laying a superconductor cable

A method for arranging a superconductor cable including the step of laying the superconductive cable core into a cryostat with an overlength in comparison to the axial length of said cryostat. After laying the superconductive cable core, it is cooled to its operating temperature thereby shortening the superconductive cable core relative to the cryostat. After cooling the superconductive cable core, the shortened superconductive cable core is mechanically fixed at its two ends to the ends of the cryostat. After fixing the shortened superconductive cable core, terminations are mounted on the ends of the cable core, such that if the superconductive cable core heats up, the core deforms into a wave or helix inside the cryostat, with the length change that acts on components of the superconductor cable being negligible.

Method for laying a superconductor cable

A method is provided for producing a superconductive electrical conductor () in which a layer of an yttrium-barium-copper oxide (YBCO) is applied as a superconductive material onto a textured metal base directly or after prior application of a buffer layer, and is subjected to a heat treatment. To this end an interlayer of a metallic material which is compatible with the crystal structure of YBCO, or with the structure of a buffer layer suitable for the application of YBCO, is initially applied all around onto an elongate metal support (). The support () provided with the interlayer is subsequently processed so that predetermined texturing is imparted to the interlayer as a metal base for the layer of YBCO material or for the buffer layer. The layer of superconductive YBCO material is then applied all around, directly onto the textured interlayer or onto the buffer layer previously applied thereon, and the heat treatment is finally carried out.

A superconductor cable is described, having a superconductive flexible cable core () , which is laid in a cryostat (), in which the cable core () runs in the cryostat () in the form of a wave or helix at room temperature.

Superconductor cable

A superconductor cable includes a superconductive cable core () and a cryostat () enclosing the same. The cable core () has a superconductive conductor (), an insulation () surrounding the same and a shielding () surrounding the insulation (). A layer () of a dielectric or semiconducting material is applied to a central element () formed from a normally conducting material as a strand or tube and a layer () of at least one wire or strip of superconductive material is placed helically on top. The central element () and the layer () are connected to each other in an electrically conducting manner at the ends of the cable core ().

A method is provided for producing a superconductive electrical conductor, in which a layer of an yttrium-barium-copper oxide (YBCO) is applied as a superconductive material onto a textured metal substrate, and is subjected to a heat treatment. In order to produce a wire-shaped conductor, a textured metal substrate, provided as a strip (), is initially shaped in its longitudinal direction around an elongate metal support () with a circular cross section to form a slotted tube () having edges extending in the longitudinal direction and adjoining one another at a slot (). The slotted tube () is next closed by welding the slot () shut, and the closed tube () is then contracted by pulling until it bears on the support (). The layer () of superconductive YBCO material is thereupon applied all around, and the heat treatment is finally carried out.

A terminal structure () for a superconducting cable () is described. It consists of a conductor () and an insulator () that surrounds the conductor (), wherein the superconducting cable () has a core with a superconducting conductor () and a layer of insulation that surrounds the conductor (), and wherein the core is arranged in such a way that it can move longitudinally in a cryostat. The conductor () of the terminal structure () is electrically connected with the superconducting conductor () or with a normal conductor () that is connected with the superconducting conductor () by means of a tubular part () made of an electrically conductive material, wherein the superconducting conductor () or the normal conductor () can slide in the part () in the direction of the superconductor.
