A process for the manufacture of a tubular package filled with pasty material which comprises (a) positioning a filling tube of a filling device inside the inner tube of a tubular rod of flexible material, said rod comprising an inner tube substantially free from folds and a shirred outer tube, the hollow space of said shirred outer tube constituting a casing for said inner tube and said inner tube being a deshirred length of the tubular rod which is inverted into the hollow space of said shirred outer tube thus forming a double-walled rod, wherein the outside surface of said inner tube and the inside surface of said outer tube are in direct contact, the inner tube being integral with the outer tube at one of its ends and sealed at the other; in a manner such that the filling tube adjoins the seal of the rod, and (b) feeding pasty material from the filling device through the filling tube into said inner tube of the rod, and simultaneously turning the tube forming the shirred stick inside out under a frictional contact between the outside surface of the deshirred inner tube and the inside surface of the shirred outer tube, whereby the shirred outer tube is progressively unfolded by the pressure exerted in introducing the pasty material.

Double-walled hollow rod of flexible tubular material

Disclosed is a supporting sheath for a longitudinally shirred packaging tube, comprising a generally tubular shaped supporting sheath comprised of a thermoplastic synthetic resinous material and having an inside diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of the shirred packaging tube and a length substantially greater than the length of the shirred packaging tube, so that when a shirred packaging tube is placed inside of the supporting sheath, two projecting ends of the supporting sheath remain; a pair of generally planar disk elements, each including a central aperture therein, each of the disk elements having an outer diameter which is approximately equal to the diameter of the supporting sheath; each of the disk elements being adapted to be slid with its aperture over one of the projecting ends of the supporting sheath and abutted against the end of the shirred packaging tube contained in the supporting sheath and being adapted to contact the supporting sheath at least along its planar surface facing away from the packaging tube and along its outer circumferential edge when the sheath is turned back 180.degree. upon itself; and wherein each of the turned-back projecting ends of the supporting sheath has a permanently form-stable configuration produced by heat forming. Also disclosed is a functional unit comprising the supporting sheath and a shirred packaging tube, as well as a method for producing the functional unit.

Supporting sheath for a longitudinally shirred packaging tube

This invention relates to a stiff tubular hollow rod, said rod being substantially double-walled over its entire length and comprising one single length of flexible tubing, the wall of which is substantially free of openings and at least one of the surfaces of the tubing is provided with a coating, said rod comprising a shirred outer tube and an inner tube substantially free of folds arranged in the hollow space of said shirred outer tube constituting the casing for the inner tube, the inner tube being joined to the shirred outer tube at one of its ends and sealed at the other. The invention also relates to processes for making said hollow double-walled tubular rod of flexible tubing and to a sausage produced using said hollow tubular rod of flexible tubing.

This invention relates to an improvement in a sheathed, hollow, cylindrical stick composed of a flexible tube folded by longitudinal shirring, the improvement comprising a cylindrical, flexible jacket means enveloping said stick and projecting over the ends thereof, parts of the projecting portions touching end walls of said stick with their inner sides, annular disc means on said projecting portions, and said projecting portions being inverted outwardly around said disc means in a manner such that the inner walls, the end surfaces and the outer walls of said disc means are tightly covered, and said inverted portions being parallel to said jacket means and close to the exterior thereof. The invention also includes an embodiment wherein annular disc means are inserted inside the jacket means and adjacent to the end walls of the stick, the projecting portions of the jacket means are inverted around the annular disc means and clamping means are inserted in the opening of the annular disc means. The invention also includes processes for the production of the sheathed hollow cylindrical stick.
