In order to remove a lesion constricting a vascular channel, such as arteries (1), a cutter (10) of oblong, and preferably ellipsoidal shape is provided by a plurality of flexible segments (15). The segments have cutting elements (20) in the form of cusps and mounds (25) distributed over their outwardly facing surfaces. The cutter is shortened axially between its distal (D) and proximal ends to radially expand it and present the cutting elements and mounds to the lesion. The mounds help to smoothen the inside of the vascular channel following cutting of the lesion material by the cutting elements. Reaming (reciprocal movement of the cutter) along the axis (11) of the channel or rotation of the cutter may be effected from a control unit (100) via a drive shaft 40 which encases a coaxial fluid/suction supply via pipes (60, 70) to the vicinity of the cutter. A guidewire (30), which may be in a sleeve (90) is also used for axial retraction of the segments to expand the cutter. The drive shaft, guide wire and supply are in a catheter (3).

In forming integrated circuits on a wafer, diffuser features are provided adjacent to topographic features so that when a film is formed by spin-coating a liquid precursor over the integrated circuits, the action of the spreading liquid relative to the diffuser features in proximity to topographic features minimizes radial streaks which would have been caused by the topographic features.

A multipixel light sensing semiconductor device contains in at least one pixel a lens presenting a convex surface and a lens supporting layer for directing light inwardly to a semiconductive light sensor. The lens supporting layer has a thickness exceeding that of the lens, and the lens is laterally confined on the lens supporting layer between at least two opposed pixel edges.

A color filter element comprising at least two differently colored sets of color arrays and having a barrier layer separating the sets to prevent color contamination between the sets is disclosed. Highly densified, polycrystalline photoconductors can be produced by hot-pressing various materials, such as powdered lead monoxide. The powdered material is subjected to a temperature and pressure for a length of time sufficient to form a photoconductive element having a density of at least 85% and up to and including the theoretical density of the material. Such formed photoconductive element or material can be utilized in electro-photographic applications and, with the exception of such material in its single crystal form, will exhibit increased absorption of activating radiation, increased signal-to-noise ratios, and improved spatial frequency response in comparison with presently known photoconductive elements or materials.

Method for hot-pressing photoconductors

A method for forming on a substrate a relatively thick, densified, essentially non-porous, fine-grained layer of a non-conductive material. The method comprises the steps of vapor depositing onto such substrate a starting material while simultaneously bombarding the substrate with ions of a preselected gas. During the process, the substrate is disposed in the atmosphere of a preselected gas, and an RF field is established between the substrate and an opposing electrode structure to produce a plasma of such gas in the vicinity of the substrate. The substrate is electrically biased to attract ions from the plasma, such ions serving to impact on the substrate and thereby densify the vapor deposit thereon. Preferably, the starting material is one which reacts with the gas ions to form the desired material on the substrate; alternatively, the starting material comprises the desired material, in which case the gas plasma preferably comprises an inert gas.
