A grinding worm ( ) on a grinding spindle is driven in a rotating manner. On a rotatable plate ( ), two workpiece spindles ( ) are positioned at a distance from one another and driven in a rotating manner. The one workpiece ( ) is ground with the grinding worm ( ), while on the other spindle ( ) a ground workpiece ( ) is exchanged for an unmachined part ( ) using a loader ( ). By means of the signal of the probe and a control mechanism, the newly clamped-on workpiece ( ) is centered before the rotating plate ( ) is rotated into the position, in which this toothed gear ( ) can be brought into a mesh with the grinding worm ( ). In such a way, the unproductive times can be largely reduced.

Method and machine for the machining of pre-machined toothed workpieces such as gears

The conical internal teeth (7) of a spur gear grinding tool (2) mesh with the teeth (6) of a spur gear workpiece (1) or a dressing spur gear. The tool axis (4) forms an acute angle (.gamma.) with the workpiece axis (3). To grind and to dress, the spur gear tool (2) is fed relative to the workpiece (1) in the direction of the tool axis (4). In this manner an optimal tooth meshing between the tool (2) and the workpiece (1) over a wide dressing range and a constant finishing are achieved.

Method and apparatus for fine machining of spur gears

A method and apparatus for profiling a grinding wheel (12) used to grind a workpiece (6) includes selectively feeding the grinding wheel radially against a dressing roller (19) to dress the wheel. Between successive dressing operations, the dressing roller (19) is conditioned with a conditioning wheel (50) movable radially thereto. Either the dressing roller or the conditioning wheel is movable axially relative to the other. The dressing roller (19) makes linear contact with the grinding wheel (12), and makes pointwise contact with the conditioning wheel (50). The relative radial and axial movements between the conditioning wheel (50) and the dressing roller (19) are synchronized by program control.

Method of and apparatus for profiling grinding wheels

A pallet tray for transporting and storing workpieces in an automatic feed system attached to a machine tool includes an elongated metallic base member 1 having a plurality of plastic inserts 2 mounted thereon. Each insert has one or more holding pockets 3 for the individual workpieces. The base member has an inverted U-shaped profile defining a recessed guide groove 7 in the longitudinal direction which cooperates with a guide rail of the workpiece feeding system. With such construction different inserts can be provided to accommodate variously configured workpieces to thereby avoid the separate injection molding of a number of differently dimensioned, complete pallet trays.

A tool changing device for a lathe of the type having a base structure with parallel column guides for longitudinal movement of a tool storage and changing device. The tool changer disclosed is a generally circular tool magazine, a cross slide member mounted on the longitudinal guide means of the lathe, the magazine surrounding one of the longitudinal guides. The tool changer is rotatably movable to select one of a plurality of tools circularly disposed thereon to bring the desired tool to a position adjacent the axis of rotation of a workpiece supported on the lathe. When the selected workpiece is in position, the apparatus establishes a rigid and direct connection between the selected tool holder and the lathe with the tool holder remaining on the magazine. Seals are provided to prevent turnings and other dirt from entering the tool changing mechanism.

Tool changing device for a lathe

A lathe bed includes a steel reinforced concrete body with a torsionally flexible frame and means for rigidly connecting the ends of the frame to the body. The frame includes track members for a tool carrier. In one embodiment, the frame is made of two elongated box-like side members and two transverse column guide members, the side members being fixedly attached as by screws to the concrete body and the column guide members being fixedly attached to the side members. In another embodiment, one side member is used and the two column members extend between the side member and a wall portion of the body at the other end. The body is shaped to permit clearance for turnings removed from a workpiece and for a multiple tool magazine. The headstock, feed drive, longitudinal slides and tailstock are mounted on the frame. The body contributes rigidity to the otherwise torsionally flexible frame to produce a rigid and sturdy unitary lathe bed.
