Disclosed herein are aqueous coating compositions containing an anionically stabilized polymer, one or more derivatized polyamines, and a volatile base. Coating compositions can farther include one or more additional copolymers, which may or may not be anionically stabilized, and/or additional additives, including pigments, defoamers, pigment dispersing agents, thickeners, surfactants, and combinations thereof. By incorporating a derivatized polyamine, such as an alkoxylated polyamine, the setting time of the coating compositions can be decreased. Also provided are coatings formed from the coating compositions described herein, as well as methods of forming these coatings.

Compositions containing derivatized polyamines

The present invention relates to aqueous acrylic polymer latexes, which are suitable as binders in coating compositions for providing flexible roofing. The present invention also relates to coating compositions containing such binders, which are suitable for providing flexible roofing. The aqueous acrylic polymer latexes have a glass transition temperature Tof at most from &#x2212;10&#xb0; C., in particular at most &#x2212;20&#xb0; C., or, in case of a multi-stage polymer latex a weight average glass transition temperature Tof at most from &#x2212;10&#xb0; C., where the polymer of the acrylic polymer latex has a carbon polymer backbone formed by polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers M comprising acrylic monomers, and where the carbon polymer backbone bears functional groups of the formula (I) attached to carbon atoms of the polymer backbone *&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O-[A-NH]H (I) where the asterisk indicates the atom attached to a carbon atom of the polymer backbone, n is an integer, the number average of n in all functional groups of the formula (I) being &#x3e;1, in particular at least 1.1 or at least 1.2 or at least 1.3, and A is selected from the group consisting of 1,2-ethandiyl or 1,2-propandiyl, where the functional groups of the formula (I) contribute to the total weight of the polymer in the acrylic polymer latex by 0.1 to 10% by weight.

Aqueous acrylic polymer latexes and their use as binders

The present disclosure relates to compositions comprising a copolymer derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer, a (meth)acrylate monomer, an acid monomer, and a copolymerizable surfactant and compositions comprising the same. The (meth)acrylate monomer can be selected from a monomer having a theoretical glass transition temperature (Tg) for its corresponding homopolymer of 0&#xb0; C. or less or a hydrophobic (meth)acrylate monomer. In some embodiments, the copolymer is further derived from an organosilane. The copolymers can have a theoretical glass transition temperature (Tg) from &#x2212;60&#xb0; C. to 80&#xb0; C. and a number average particle size of 250 nm or less. The compositions can be used to prepare compositions such as coatings that have improved water resistance, blush resistance, and/or resistance to hydrostatic pressures. Methods of making the copolymers are also provided.

Binder compositions and methods of preparing and using the same

Disclosed herein are aqueous coating compositions containing an anionically stabilized polymer, one or more derivatized polyamines, and a volatile base. Coating compositions can further include one or more additional copolymers, which may or may not be anionically stabilized, and/or additional additives, including pigments, defoamers, pigment dispersing agents, thickeners, surfactants, and combinations thereof. By incorporating a derivatized polyamine, such as an alkoxylated polyamine, the setting time of the coating compositions can be decreased. Also provided are coatings formed from the coating compositions described herein, as well as methods of forming these coatings.

Coating compositions and methods for their preparation are described. The coating compositions can include a first copolymer produced by emulsion polymerization and derived from one or more monomers including one or more (meth)acrylates, one or more acid monomers, and optionally styrene. The first copolymer can have a Tg from &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;23&#xb0; C. and is present in an amount of 10-50% by weight based on the total polymer content. The coating compositions can also include a second copolymer produced by emulsion polymerization and derived from one or more monomers including one or more (meth)acrylates, one or more acid monomers, and optionally styrene. The second copolymer can have a Tg from &#x2212;15&#xb0; C. to 25&#xb0; C. and is present in an amount of 50-90% by weight based on the total polymer content. Further described herein are dried coatings, methods for coating a substrate, and methods for producing a coating.

Acrylic dispersion-based coating compositions

A composition for use in a pavement surface, comprises (a) asphalt in an amount of from 40 to 70 parts by weight; (b) an electrically neutral copolymer in an amount of from greater than 0 to 10 parts by weight; (c) an emulsifier in an amount of from 0.1 to 4 parts by weight; (d) an acid or a base in an amount of from 0.1 to 4 parts by weight; and (e) water in an amount of from 25 to 60 parts by weight. A method of making a composition, a method of applying a composition, and a paved surface is also disclosed.

Compositions comprising asphalt and electrically neutral copolymer dispersions

The invention is a method of producing an essentially electrically neutral polymer dispersion, comprising a polymerizing one or more monomers in the presence of a nonionic surfactant, wherein the polymerization preferably occurs in the absence of ionic surfactants. The invention also includes methods of producing positively or negatively charged polymer dispersions comprising producing the essentially nonionic polymer dispersion and further adding a cationically-charged or anionically-charged surfactant or electrolyte. The invention further includes dispersions produced by the methods of the invention and polymer films and powders produced from these dispersions.

Electrically neutral dispersions and method of preparing same

Multivinyl siloxane oligomer-based compositions and methods for their preparation and use are described herein. The multivinyl siloxane oligomer-based compositions can be prepared as aqueous polymer dispersion. The aqueous polymer dispersions can include water and a polymer derived from at least one multivinyl siloxane oligomer having an Si&#x2014;O&#x2014;Si backbone and at least one alkoxy group and one or more additional monomers. Further described herein are products including the aqueous polymer dispersions and methods for their preparation and use.

Multivinyl siloxane oligomer-based polymer dispersions and methods of preparing and using the same

The invention is a method of treating, restoring or sealing a surface comprising applying an emulsion comprising a latex polymer, a cationic emulsifier, and optionally a recycling agent to the surface to wet the surface and depositing a surface treatment layer on the surface, wherein the depositing step occurs while the surface is wetted. The invention also includes a surface pretreatment composition comprising water, at least one acrylic latex polymer, an aromatic recycling agent, and at least one cationic emulsifier. Furthermore, the invention includes the surface resulting from the application of the emulsion used in the invention and concentrated emulsions for use with the surface treatment composition.

Method and composition for enhancing the performance of an emulsion-based surface treatment

Adhesive for nonceramic floor coverings

A composition comprising a polymer, wherein the polymer comprises at least one of: i) a blend of a first polymer comprising a reaction product of acetoacetoxyethyl (meth)acrylate monomer and a second polymer comprising a reaction product of castor oil (meth)acrylate monomer, and ii) a third polymer comprising a reaction product of acetoacetoxyethyl (meth)acrylate monomer and castor oil (meth)acrylate monomer. These polymer compositions can be cured by at least one of auto-oxidation and actinic radiation. Optionally, at least a portion of the acetoacetoxyethyl (meth)acrylate moieties in the polymer can be converted to a corresponding enamine by reaction with at least one of ammonia and an amine.
