A cylinder crankcase for an internal combustion engine, the base body of the engine consisting of a material A and the cylinder walls of the engine of a second material B, and a lattice-like reinforcement provided between the two materials A, B. A process for production of the cylinder crankcase such that the lattice-like reinforcement is introduced into a casting mold for the cylinder crankcase, and that the two materials A, B are then introduced into the casting mold.

In an intake manifold assembly for a multicylinder internal combustion engine with at least three inlet valves 4, 5, 6, to which lead individual intake manifolds 9, 10, 11 of different length, the shorter individual intake manifold of which 10, 11 can be put into operation, as the revolutions per minute and/or the load increases, by opening the shutoff valves 18, 19, the effective length of each individual intake manifold is shortened to the length of a shorter individual intake manifold, when the latter is put into operation, owing to the fact that appropriate intake ports 22, 24, 26 have been provided, which are controlled by control butterfly valves 23, 25, 27. Such an arrangement accomplishes that the resonating tube length of all individual intake manifolds, which have been put into operation, is the same, so that an optimum power output is ensured.

Intake manifold assembly for a multicylinder internal combustion engine

A venting device for the fuel tank of a motor vehicle has a venting line in which a fuel vapor filter is disposed. The filter is connected to the atmosphere through an aeration device, the outlet of which lies in the road region of the vehicle. To prevent an excessive vacuum arising in the venting system, when the outlet is plugged, a vacuum limiting valve is connected to the aeration line. This valve, at a particular vacuum in the aerating line, connects this line with the atmosphere at a place above the outlet of the aeration line.

Venting device for the fuel tank of a motor vehicle

An oil sump 1 of an internal combustion engine has a recess 3, into which dips a suction funel 5 of an oil pump. The funnel is spaced slightly from the oil sump floor 7. A honeycomb-shaped insert 8 is positioned in the recess 3 at a slight spacing from the oil sump floor 7. The height b of the insert 8 amounts to a multiple of the spacing a from the oil sump floor and also a multiple of the side length c of the substantially square cross-section of the chambers 11 of the insert 8. As a result, the oil flowing back from the engine, which is strongly foamed with air because of the rotating motion of the crankshaft drive, can become de-foamed in the relatively high chambers 11, whereby the oil foam in the chambers 11 rises and air-free oil in the chambers drops down to the oil sump floor 7. This ensures that the oil pump, which is pumping out from the oil sump floor 7, essentially draws in air-free oil.

Oil sumps for internal combustion engines

A cylinder head gasket for internal combustion engines is fixed in position in the cylinder block and/or the cylinder head. Elements fixedly connected with the gasket are shaped that they are adapted to coact with bores in the cylinder block and/or the cylinder head in a frictionally connected manner. The elements are bushings which penetrate the gasket and protrude therefrom at least on one side thereof. The bushings have flanges engaging on both sides of the gasket and adapted to extend into the bores in a radial direction and in a flexible manner.

Cylinder head gasket for internal combustion engines

In a reciprocating piston combustion engine, an insert extends substantially to the plane separating the leading part of the oil pan from the interior of the crankcase. The free longitudinal edge of the insert is disposed above the oil level in the oil pan. Recesses in the insert receive oil that drips down from the crankshaft bearing and directs it back to the oil pan. In view of the close proximity of the recesses with the movement of the crank web, very little oil reaches the insert.

Reciprocating piston engine

In a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine to be installed horizontally in a motor vehicle the cylinder block (2), the cylinder head (4), one half (8) of the crankcase and the oil sump (9) are formed from a single casting, the oil sump being positioned below the cylinder block and having an opening (13) in the same plane as a flat surface (12) on the cylinder head which locates a camshaft case (14). The camshaft case (14) and the oil sump cover (17) are formed as one unit, and a stay between the camshaft case and the oil sump cover accommodates the drive shaft (21) of an oil pump (22) located in the oil sump and driven by the camshaft. A second stay (19) between the camshaft case and the oil sump cover contains a duct (25) for conveying oil from the camshaft case back into the oil sump.

Reciprocating internal combustion engine

A continuous fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine including a fuel metering valve 7 operating at a controlled pressure difference between chambers 13,14, the pressure difference being automatically adjusted by a regulating valve 17 including a diaphragm 18 separating two chambers 19,20. Chamber 20 is connected to relief 60 via a movable valve element 35 and the second chamber 19 is connected to the pressure upstream of the metering valve. The pressure difference is determined by a spring system acting on the diaphragm 18 including a stronger spring 33 which acts directly on the diaphragm and a weaker spring 34 which acts as a contact spring holding the valve body 35 lightly in contact with the diaphragm.

Fuel injection system

This invention relates to a fuel injection system. The fuel injection system has a fuel proportioning valve (3,4) which is supplied by a fuel feed line (39). The fuel proportioning valve supplies fuel to fuel injection valves (not shown) via a diaphragm valve 25. A differential pressure regulator 35 is provided to alter the pressure in the system in accordance with engine parameters. The pressure in the system is controlled by system pressure valve 41. In operation excess fuel is returned to fuel tank 70. When the engine is switched off a stop valve 63 closes the return line and valve 25 is closed in response to a drop in pressure in the differential pressure regulator 35, thus sealing the system and maintaining the pressure within the fuel supply part of the system to facilitate easy restarting. Seals 73 are provided in the fuel proportioning valve (3,4) to prevent fuel leakage from the seal part of the system between the valve 3 and valve cylinder 4 of the fuel proportioning valve.

Fuel injection systems

A fuel metering valve for fuel injection to an internal combustion engine, comprising a rotary valve piston movable in a valve cylinder and having a spiral groove cooperating with a number of spaced valve ports in the cylinder, each port of triangular cross-section. Fuel is admitted to one end of the spiral groove and delivered through the ports in the cylinder. Rotation of the piston progressively opens the ports simultaneously.

Fuel metering valve

A fuel injection system for a mixture-compressing externally ignited internal combustion engine includes a flow sensing member (3) arranged in an air intake duct (1), the member (3) moving in accordance with the quantity of air flowing through the duct so as to actuate a fuel metering valve (7) and to dispense a quantity of fuel to fuel injection nozzles (9) of the engine. The pressure difference in the metering valve (7) is maintained constant by means of a pressure sensitive valve (11) and a differential pressure control valve (20), each of which has two chambers separated by a diaphragm (12 and 21). The differential pressure control valve (20) is actuated on both sides by springs (34, 36 and 54) whose loading stress can be varied according to engine operating parameters. The loading stress of the springs is adjusted by devices for full-load fuel concentration and cold-starting fuel enrichment, and also a device responsive to air pressure changes.

The fuel injection system for a mixture compressing externally ignited internal combustion engine includes a flow sensing member (3) arranged in an air intake duct (1), the member (3) moving in accordance with the quantity of air flowing through the duct so as to actuate a fuel dispensing valve (7) and to dispense a quantity of fuel to fuel injection nozzles (9) of the engine. The pressure difference in the dispensing valve (7) is maintained constant by means of a pressure sensitive valve (11) and a differential pressure control valve (20). The differential pressure control valve has two chambers (22 and 23) separated from each other by a rigid wall (21) and include diaphragms (24 and 25) arranged parallel to each other. The diaphragms are maintained at a fixed spacing from each other by a bolt (33) and both diaphragms are actuated by springs (37) and (42) which urge the diaphragms against each other. The loading stresses of the springs can be varied according to engine operating parameters and can be adjusted by devices for full load fuel concentration and cold-starting fuel concentration, and also a device responsive to air pressure chambers.

An internal combustion engine has at least one outlet passage for exhausting the burned gases, terminating at the exterior surface of the engine, and, alternatively, connectable to the afterburning device or to a by-pass line by-passing the afterburning device. A control regulated as a function of temperature is provided to direct the burned gases through the by-pass line at high temperature and through the afterburning device at low temperature.

A fuel injection system for a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine has separate ignition and continuous injection into the engine inlet duct which includes an adjustable throttle butterfly valve and a baffle flap pivoted at the side of the duct under the effect of the flow through the duct acting in opposition to a return force. The flap is coupled to a damper blade, and also to a coaxial rotary control member of a fuel metering valve, the latter comprising a control cylinder and a control piston rotating inside and in relation to the cylinder, and metering a quantity of fuel to one or more injector nozzles in proportion to the air current quantity. The control cylinder being stationary and mounted alongside the baffle flap outside the inlet duct, and the rotary control piston being connected outside the control cylinder adjacent one end to the baffle flap, and adjacent the other end to the damper blade, so as to rotate with the flap and the blade.

Fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine

A fuel injection system for a mixture compressing spark ignition internal combustion engine includes means for injection of fuel into the air intake of the engine. A fuel metering valve dispenses to one or more injection jets a quantity of fuel related to the quantity of air flowing through the intake. An adjustable throttle valve is in the air intake as well as an air flow measuring element which is movable against a restoring force in accordance with the quantity of air flowing through the intake. The measuring element is arranged to actuate a control element of the fuel metering valve. A damping device having a damping element connected to the measuring element is movable to displace fluid between two damping chambers through a throttling passage. One damping chamber is connected to a fuel pump which delivers fuel to the metering valve while the second damping chamber is connected to a discharge port through a thermally controlled outlet valve. A metering trap chamber downstream of the outlet valve is provided with means for emptying the trap chamber after operation.
