A combination of components in a capillary flow channel use capillary forces to passively control the movement of liquid samples within a microfluidic device. To detect a target, a liquid sample introduced to a proximal portion of a capillary channel of a microfluidic device moves by capillary action along the specific components of capillary channel.

Microfluidic device, system and method

Contemplated microfluidic devices and methods are drawn to protein arrays in which distinct and detergent-containing antigen preparations are deposited onto an optical contrast layer in a non-specific and non-covalent manner. Detection of binding a is carried out using a dye that precipitates or agglomerates to so form a visually detectable signal at a dynamic range of at least three orders of magnitude.

Microfluidic devices and methods

A combination of capillary forces and gas pressure is used to control the movement of liquid samples within a microfluidic device. A liquid sample introduced to a proximal portion of a capillary channel of a microfluidic device moves by capillary action partway along the capillary channel. As the liquid sample moves, a pressure of a gas acting upon a distal gas-liquid interface of the liquid sample increases by an amount sufficient to stop further movement of the liquid sample. To initiate further movement of the liquid sample, a pump connected to a distal portion of the capillary channel decreases the pressure of the gas acting upon the distal gas-liquid interface of the liquid sample by an amount sufficient to permit the liquid sample to move by capillary action further along the capillary channel of the microfluidic device.

A microfluidic switching device that includes an upstream microfluidic channel configured to contain a liquid having particles therein and a plurality of outlet channels coupled to the upstream microfluidic channel at a junction. A dead-end side channel or LCAT is oriented generally perpendicular to the upstream microfluidic channel and coupled to the upstream microfluidic channel at the junction, the dead-end side channel having a gas contained therein. The device includes a transducer configured to apply an external source of acoustic energy. Actuation of the transducer effectuates symmetrical oscillation of a gas/liquid boundary at the junction. Preferably, the junction comprises a bifurcation with two outlets. Further, the LCAT has a leading edge and a trailing edge and wherein the trailing edge of the LCAT is substantially aligned with the bifurcation.

Lateral cavity acoustic transducer based microfluidic switch

A system of metalization in an integrated polymer microsystem. A flexible polymer substrate is provided and conductive ink is applied to the substrate. In one embodiment the flexible polymer substrate is silicone. In another embodiment the flexible polymer substrate comprises poly(dimethylsiloxane).

Method of producing an electronic unit having a polydimethylsiloxane substrate and circuit lines

A stretchable electronic circuit or electronic device and a polymer-based process to produce a circuit or electronic device containing a stretchable conducting circuit. The stretchable electronic apparatus has a central longitudinal axis and the apparatus is stretchable in a longitudinal direction generally aligned with the central longitudinal axis. The apparatus comprises a stretchable polymer body and at least one circuit line operatively connected to the stretchable polymer body. The circuit line extends in the longitudinal direction and has a longitudinal component that extends in the longitudinal direction and has an offset component that is at an angle to the longitudinal direction. The longitudinal component and the offset component allow the apparatus to stretch in the longitudinal direction while maintaining the integrity of the circuit line.

Stretchable polymer-based electronic device
