A seal system has: a first member; a seal carried by the first member and having a seal face; and a second member rotatable relative to the first member about an axis. The second member has: a seat on a first piece of the second member, the seat having a seat face in sliding sealing engagement with the seal face; and a radially outwardly closed collection channel for collecting centrifuged oil; a second piece encircling and attached to the first piece and having a circumferential array of apertures; and cooperating with the first piece to define a plenum; and a flowpath from the collection channel passing radially outward axially spaced from the seat face to cool the seat face and passing axially away from the seat face in the plenum.

A face seal assembly includes a seal carrier, a seal element supported by the seal carrier, a rotating seal plate interactive with the seal element to define a face seal, and a seal arrester configured to engage the seal carrier at a predetermined amount of wear of the seal element to stop wear of the seal element.

A floating brush seal assembly includes a ring-shaped housing defining a radially inwardly open internal cavity; a brush seal in the cavity and having bristles extending radially inwardly and offset to seal against a rotating body; a radial spring positioned to exert a radial inwardly directed force against the brush seal relative to the housing; and an axial spring positioned to exert an axially directed force against the brush seal relative to the housing.

A gas turbine engine according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a shaft configured to rotate during operation of the gas turbine engine, and a squeeze film damper radially outside the shaft. The squeeze film damper includes a cavity including a film of lubricant axially between first and second cavity seals, and further includes a reservoir fluidly coupled to the cavity. A method is also disclosed.

A seal system has: a first member; a seal carried by the first member and having a seal face; and a second member rotatable relative to the first member about an axis. The second member has: a seat, the seat having a seat face in sliding sealing engagement with the seal face; and a circumferential array of passageway legs. The second member further has an annular channel axially spaced from the seat face, the passageway legs connected to the annular channel.

A contacting seal for a gas turbine engine include a seal element rotationally fixed relative to an axis of rotation, and a seal seat configured to rotate circumferentially about an axis of rotation and contact the seal element at an interface surface of the seal seat. The seal seat includes an interface component including a seat wall including the interface surface and a seat cavity surface opposite the interface surface, such that a wall thickness of the interface component is defined therebetween. A cover component is secured to the interface component, the cover component including a cover cavity surface. The seat cavity surface and the cover cavity surface define a cooling cavity therebetween configured such that a flow of fluid therethrough cools the interface component via contact between the coolant and the seat cavity surface.

A bearing assembly according to an example of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a bearing situated in a bearing compartment, a seal assembly that defines the bearing compartment, at least one deflector between the bearing and the seal assembly that is rotatable about an axis, and a coalescer at least partially extending about the at least one deflector to define a fluid passage. A method of sealing is also disclosed.

Bearing assembly for gas turbine engines

A gas turbine engine includes a cover, a support, and a sealing member. The cover has a cover housing and a cover arm extending from the cover housing between a first arm end connected to the cover housing and a second arm end having a cover end surface. The support has a support body, a first support arm extending between a first support arm first end connected to the support body and a first support arm second end. The cover arm extends into the first support arm. The sealing member at least partially extends across a gap defined between the cover end surface and the first support arm.

A bearing support may include a central shaft, a flange shaft, and a tube boss. The central shaft may include a central longitudinal axis extending between a first end and a second end of the bearing support. The flange shaft may extend radially outward of the central shaft at an acute angle, relative to the central longitudinal axis from the first end to the second end, and the flange shaft may include a rim defining an aperture. The tube boss extends from the central shaft radially outward through the aperture, according to various embodiments. An annular channel may be between the rim and the tube boss.

A seal seat includes an annular body and an extension. The annular body is disposed about a centerline axis. The extension is connected to and extends radially outward from the annular body. The extension includes first, second, and third portions. The first portion is connected to the annular body and is defined by axially opposed upstream and downstream wall faces. The first portion includes a fin connected to the upstream wall face. The second portion is connected to the first portion and extends substantially parallel to the annular body. The third portion is connected to the second portion and extends substantially parallel to the second portion.

A tool for removing a rivet with a hole and a head from a first article that is attached to a second article includes a frame, an anvil, a push pin, and a driver. The frame includes first and second arms. The anvil includes a tube with an opening and is disposed on the first arm of the frame. The push pin is slidably engaged with the second arm of the frame and is aligned coaxially with the anvil. The push pin is configured to engage with a hole in a tail end of the rivet in order to remove the rivet from the first article. The driver is attached to the frame and is configured to move the push pin in a linear direction towards the anvil in order to push the rivet out of engagement with the first article and such that the first and second articles become unattached.

A spanner nut for a bearing compartment of an engine with a bearing stack on a first shaft that rotates about an engine centerline includes a body, a piloting hook connected to the body, a first threaded portion, and a channel formed by the piloting hook. The piloting hook includes first and second extensions. The first extension is connected to and extends radially inward from the body. The second extension is connected to and extends in an axial direction from the first extension. The second extension includes a radially outward facing surface. The first threaded portion is configured to engage with a second threaded portion on the end of the first shaft. The channel is configured to receive the end of the first shaft. The piloting hook is configured to draw the second extension radially outward as the spanner nut is compressed.

A seal assembly for a rotatable component having an axis of rotation. The seal assembly may include a first seal mounted to a housing and configured to be in sealing engagement with the rotatable component, a second seal mounted to the housing an axial distance apart from the first seal and configured to be in sealing engagement with the rotatable component, wherein the axial distance is parallel with the axis of rotation, a buffer fluid chamber defined between the first seal and the second seal, and a buffer fluid inlet in fluid providing communication with the buffer fluid chamber.
