A technique for suggesting patterns to search documents for information of interest includes acquiring a working set of spans for a document set that includes one or more documents. A list of one or more suggested patterns is generated by applying a pattern suggestion algorithm (PSA) to the set of spans for each document in the document set. One or more unique patterns are generated by applying a pattern consolidation algorithm (PCA) to the generated list of suggested patterns. Pattern information for each of the unique patterns is then generated. The pattern information includes a respective first count that corresponds to the number of times each of the unique patterns occurs in the document set.

A computer-implemented method for ranking answers of question-answer pairs in ground truth. The computer-implemented method includes annotating, via an annotation tool, the domain dictionary, including, at least one or more of lexicons, glossaries, knowledge base query for ranking the question-answer pairs. The computer-implemented method further includes defining search patterns of the annotated domain dictionary. The computer-implemented method further includes searching a documents corpus or knowledge based query of the domain dictionary for candidate answers of the question-answer pairs, based on the defined search patterns, the candidate are returned based on the search. The computer-implemented method for evaluating the candidate answers with the annotation tool to verify correctness or acceptability of the returned candidate answers based on the search.

Methods and systems for improving a data transformation operation that converts a source data instance containing repeating elements into a target data instance having a user-specified structure, based solely on a user's specification of a target template. The methods and systems derive and calculate sub-iteration contexts by applying a selected heuristic to the source data instance and the target template, and use these sub-iteration contexts to create a target data instance having a repeating structure that agrees with the user-specified target template. The methods and systems can be customized by the selection of heuristic, and by the specification of explicit sub-iteration contexts that may override the derived contexts.
