The disclosure relates converting an analog input signal to a digital output signal in a number of successive approximation cycles. A sampled analog input signal is received, and a decision node is loaded from a decision tree stored in memory, where each decision node in the decision tree stores an optimal threshold value and an address to one or more next decision nodes. The optimal threshold value, a first output flag and a second output flag associated with a currently loaded decision node is read from the decision tree in the memory, and the sampled first analog input signal is compared with the optimal threshold value and, based on a result of the comparison, a next decision node is loaded from the decision tree stored in memory according to the address associated with the currently loaded decision node or the digital output signal is output.

At least one estimated GSM-based bit sequence may be selected by performing searches that start from trellis junctions determined by the decoding algorithm. At least one physical constraint test may be performed on the selected estimated GSM-based bit sequences to select a decoded output GSM-based bit sequence. A multilayer decoding process may comprise a burst process and a frame process. Results from a first burst process may be utilized to generate a decoded GSM bit sequence in the frame process. The frame process may utilize redundancy information and physical constraints to improve the performance of a decoding algorithm.

Aspects of a method and system for interference suppression in WCDMA systems may include one or more circuits that are operable to receive a plurality of multipath signals via one or more receiving antennas. A plurality of weighting factor values may be computed based on the received multipath signals. Estimated signals may be based on the weighting factor values. Residual signals may be generated based on received signals and the estimated signals. Addback signals may be generated based on the estimated signals and the residual signals. Updated estimated signals may be generated based on the addback signals and the weighting factor values. Incremental signals may be generated based on the updated estimated signals and addback signals. Updated residual signals may be generated based on the incremental signals and previous residual signals. The interference suppressed signals may be generated based on the updated residual signals and updated estimated signals.

Aspects of a method and system for interference suppression between multipath signals utilizing a programmable interface suppression module may include one or more processors and/or circuits that are operable to program an interference suppression module based on one or more interference cancellation parameters. A plurality of weighting factor values may be determined based on the one or more interference suppression parameters and a received plurality of multipath signals. A plurality of estimated signals may be generated based on the plurality of weighting factor values. A plurality of updated estimated signals may be generated based on the plurality of estimated signals. Method and system for decoding video, voice, and speech data using redundancy

A processing module produces improved main channel estimate. This process involves initially estimating the channel impulse response. This result is based on and combined with a known sequences such as that provided by training sequences of the midamble within RF bursts. From this combination, it is possible to produce an estimated signal from a convolution of the channel impulse response and midamble. The estimated signal may be cancelled or subtracted from the received signal to produce a clearer image of the disturber signal. A blind data recovery performed upon the disturber signal. The recovered disturber data may be used as a reference for disturber channel estimation in order to produce a disturber channel impulse response. With the estimated disturber channel impulse response and the recovered disturber data, an estimated disturber signal may be reconstructed and subtracted from the received signal. This allows the cancellation of the estimated disturber signal. Without a clear or dominant disturber signal, a better representation of the main channel impulse response may be produced. This results in more accurate processing of the received RF bursts and improved receiver performance.

A method for successive interference cancellation in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems is provided that uses variable interferer weights. This method allows interfering signals to be cancelled in order to recover a transmitted data signal. This method involves receiving the data signal subject to interference from at least one interfering signal. A first interfering signal is identified. Then an interferer weight coefficient associated with the first interfering signal is generated. This allows the first interfering signal to be cancelled from the received data signal using the interferer weight coefficient. These processes may then be reiterated for other interfering signals. It is then possible to recover the transmitted data signal from the received data signal.

Successive interference cancellation in code division multiple access system using variable interferer weights

Aspects of a method and system for feedback of decoded data characteristics to decoder in stored data access and decoding operations to assist in additional decoding operations are presented. Aspects of the system may include a decoder that enables decoding of a portion of encoded data. A processor may enable generation of at least one hypothesis based on the decoded portion of encoded data and/or redundancy information associated with at least the decoded portion of the encoded data. The decoder may enable generation of one or more subsequent portions of decoded data based on the generated at least one hypothesis.

Method and system for feedback of decoded data characteristics to a decoder in stored data access and decoding operations to assist in additional decoding operations

Multipath signals are processed to suppress interference utilizing a programmable interface suppression module. One or more circuits that are operable to retrieve at least a portion of stored data from a memory, wherein the stored data corresponds to signals received via a particular receiving antenna and assigned to a particular finger in a rake receiver. A plurality of weighting factor values may be computed based on one or more signals received via the particular receiving antenna. Estimated signals may be generated based on the portion of stored data and the plurality of weighting factors. Residual signals may be generated based on the portion of stored data and the estimated signals. The portion of stored data may be replaced in the memory with corresponding data generated utilizing the residual signals. A plurality of interference suppressed signals may be generated based on the plurality of residual signals.

Method and system for processing multipath signals to suppress interface utilizing a programmable interface suppression module

A method and system for improving reception in wired and wireless systems through redundancy and iterative processing are provided. A multilayer decoding process may comprise a burst process and a frame process. Results from a first burst process may be utilized to generate a decoded bit sequence in the frame process. The frame process may utilize redundancy information and physical constraints to improve the performance of a decoding algorithm. Results from the frame process may be fed back for a second iteration of the burst process and of the frame process, to further improve the decoding operation. In some instances, the second iteration of the burst process may be based on a gradient search approach.

Method and system for improving reception in wired and wireless receivers through redundancy and iterative processing

Adaptive interference cancellation algorithm using speech mode dependent thresholds. A method of processing radio frequency (RF) bursts dependent on a speech mode associated with data contained within the RF burst is presented. Different voice modes, full rate, half rate, and adaptive multi-channel rates each may require different signal to noise ratio (SNR) conditions in order to be successfully processed. To improve the equalization, the SNR associated with the burst is estimated. Based on the SNR or other related conditions, a decision can be made as to whether or not an interference cancellation burst process should be implemented. For example, any one or more of SNR of the signal, a measure of colored noise within the signal, an indication whether the signal being noise limited or interference limited, and a channel profile of the signal may indicate the presence of interference requiring the cancellation of such interference.

Adaptive interference cancellation algorithm using speech mode dependent thresholds

Aspects of a method and system for redundancy-based decoding in 8-PSK GSM systems are provided. A burst process may utilize a gradient search equalization operation to process a received 8-PSK modulated symbol sequence. A frame process may generate a redundancy-based decoded output bit sequence based on the burst process results. Iterative steps of the gradient search equalization operation may be utilized to converge to the burst process results. The redundancy-based decoded output bit sequence of the frame process may be fed back to a subsequent burst process. Results from the subsequent burst process may be utilized to generate a subsequent redundancy-based decoded output bit sequence by a subsequent frame process. The fed-back redundancy-based decoded output bit sequence may be combined with results from a Viterbi equalization operation within the subsequent burst process. Symbol-to-bits and bits-to-symbol conversions may be utilized during the burst process and during the subsequent burst process.

Method and system for redundancy-based decoding in 8-PSK GSM systems

Aspects of a method and system for decoding GSM speech data using redundancy are provided. A decoding algorithm in a frame process may be utilized to generate a bit-sequence for GSM speech data received via a burst process. The decoding algorithm may be a modified Viterbi algorithm, for example. The frame process may comprise verifying a CRC for the bit-sequence and/or decrypting the bit-sequence. In some instances, estimates of the bit-sequence may be fed back to the decoding algorithm. A speech stream that satisfies speech constraints may be generated based on the generated bit-sequence. The speech constraints may comprise gain and/or pitch continuity, for example. The generated speech stream may be decoded via a voice decoder that supports full rate (FR), adaptive multi-rate (AMR), and/or enhanced full-rate (EFR) speech coding. Frame process results may be fed back to the burst process to improve decoding of received GSM speech data.
