A display system comprising a backlight device having a light emitting array, a liquid crystal panel, and a color filter having one or more absorbing dyes and, optionally, one or more dye enhancement compounds, wherein the one or more absorbing dyes and the one or more dye enhancement compounds are located in at least one color set of subpixels in the color filter. The one or more absorbing dyes may be a soluble, blue light, green light, or red light absorbing dye included in blue, green, or red subpixels of the color filter. A blue light absorbing dye may reduce transmission in a wavelength range of 410-430 nm, a green light absorbing dye may reduce transmission in a wavelength range of 490-570 nm, and a red light absorbing dye may reduce transmission of wavelengths less than 620 nm.

Color filter enhancements for display devices

A display system and method are disclosed that includes an electronic display device and a backlight comprising a light-emitting array, a reflector adjacent to the light-emitting array, a diffuser opposite the reflector, a first brightness enhancing layer adjacent the diffuser, and an optical film in the backlight unit that includes at least one light conversion material or at least one light conversion material. The light conversion material is structured and configured to reduce hazardous blue light emissions between about 400 nm to about 500 nm. The disclosed display device can include a liquid crystal panel configured to control transmission of light from the backlight to a viewer. The display device also includes one or more optical films that incorporate one or more light conversion or light absorbing materials. The optical films can be positioned between the layers of the disclosed display device and give enhanced blue-light absorption to the display device.

Backlight unit with emission modification

A display device is disclosed that includes a backlight comprising light-emitting diodes. The disclosed display device includes a liquid crystal panel configured to control transmission of light from the backlight to a viewer. The display device also includes one or more optical films that incorporate one or more light conversion or light absorbing materials. The optical films can be positioned between the layers of the disclosed display device and give enhanced blue-light absorption to the display device.

A light source that includes an LED light source, and one or more encapsulants containing a light-absorbing component that absorbs light in the wavelength range of about 415 nm to about 435 nm and can include at least one phosphor that can provide an LED light source that emits white light having a reduced amount of blue light or even toxic blue light with minimal effect on color characteristics such as correlated color temperature (CCT), color gamut, and luminance.

White LED light source and method of making same

The display device also includes one or more optical films that incorporate one or more light conversion materials.

Light emission modification

A method of producing an article is described. The method includes (a) providing a substrate comprising an etchable surface layer; (b) coating the etchable surface layer with a composition comprising a non-volatile, etch-resistant component in a volatile liquid carrier; and (c) drying the composition to remove the liquid carrier, whereupon the non-volatile, etch-resistant component self-assembles to form etch-resistant traces on the etchable surface layer. The liquid carrier is in the form of an emulsion comprising a continuous phase and a second phase in the form of domains dispersed in the continuous phase.

Process for preparing transparent conductive coatings

A process is disclosed for the delayed sintering of metal nanoparticles in a self-assembled transparent conductive coating by incorporating a sintering additive into the water phase of the emulsion used to form the coating. The sintering additive reduces the standard reduction potential of the metal ion of the metal forming the nanoparticles by an amount greater than 0.1V but less than the full reduction potential of the metal ion. Emulsion compositions used in the process are also disclosed.

Process of forming transparent conductive coatings with sintering additives

Among other things, two networks, one on top of the other, are formed on a substrate based on coating materials containing emulsions or foams. The two networks can be formed of the same material, e.g., a conductive material such as silver, or can be formed of different materials. The coating materials forming the different networks can have different concentration of network materials.

Aligned networks on substrates

An article is disclosed comprising a network-like pattern of conductive traces formed of at least partially-joined nanoparticles that define randomly-shaped cells that are generally transparent to light and contain a transparent filler material. In a preferred embodiment, the filler material is conductive such as a metal oxide or a conductive polymer. In another preferred embodiment, the filler material is an adhesive that is can be used to transfer the network from one substrate to another. A preferred method of forming the article is also disclosed wherein an emulsion containing the nanoparticles in the solvent phase and the filler material in the water phase is coated onto a substrate. The emulsion is dried and the nanoparticles self-assemble to form the traces and the filler material is deposited in the cells. An electroluminescent device is also disclosed wherein the article of the invention forms a transparent electrode in the device.

Transparent conductive coating with filler material

A photovoltaic device is disclosed that includes a transparent front electrode formed by the self-assembly of conductive nanoparticles from an emulsion coated onto a substrate and dried. The nanoparticles self-assemble into a network-like pattern of conductive traces that define randomly-shaped transparent cells. The cells may be filled with various transparent filler materials and additional layers may be present in the device in addition to conventional components. Processes for forming the transparent electrode are also disclosed.
