Predictive execution of query flows in an application aware database environment. A repository of previously received and registered database queries along with at least corresponding metadata having information about database query flows generating the database queries is maintained. Application metadata corresponding to a subsequent database query is received. The repository is checked to determine if the application metadata matches one of the previously received and registered database query flows. One or more queries corresponding to the query flow from the repository is/are retrieved if a match is determined. Execution of the retrieved one or more database queries is started prior to receiving the query from outside the repository.

Techniques and architectures for providing and operating an application-aware database environment with predictive execution of queries and query flows

Application-aware database environments. A repository of previously received and registered database queries is maintained that includes at least corresponding metadata having information about an application generating the database queries. A subsequent database query and application metadata corresponding to the subsequent database query can be received. The repository to determine if the subsequent database query and application metadata match one of the previously received database queries and application metadata. A matching previously received database query is retrieved from the repository if a match is determined. The retrieved database query is executed.

Techniques and architectures for providing and operating an application-aware database environment

Context-sensitive index visibility is used to reduce the number databases indexes that are considered and evaluated as an access path by query optimization. For a database statement that references or otherwise requires access to a set of database tables for which a DBMS defines a set of database indexes, context-sensitive index visibility limits the selection of database indexes. A query context comprises query context attributes, each of which is associated with a requested execution of a database statement. Query context attributes dictate whether a database index can be considered for query optimization. An example of a query context attribute is database user of a database session in which a database statement is issued. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a query context attribute is a session attribute stored as part of a session state of a database session.

Context sensitive indexes

Described herein are systems and methods for providing context-sensitive data security, for business application performance optimization. In accordance with an embodiment, the system can be used together with a Role Based Access Control model. Data security predicates can be made context-sensitive, by taking into account the context in which an end-user is navigating an application. By providing context-sensitive data security in this manner, the complexity of database queries can be reduced, and the underlying relational database management system can create better-optimized execution plans.
