An electrostatic sensor device including a first sensor element and a second sensor element; a dielectric substrate material formed in two layers, and a sensing hole which penetrates the dielectric substrate material from its upper surface to its lower surface. The first sensor element is receivable in the sensing hole; and second sensor element includes a first conducting ring disposed on an upper surface of said dielectric substrate and surrounding said sensing hole. The second conducting ring is disposed on a lower surface of the dielectric substrate and surrounds the sensing hole. The first sensor element and the second sensor are capable of producing a variable response when the first sensor element is disposed in the sensing hole.

A method for determining a mobility of an object includes the steps of measuring at least a portion of a shape of an object under an initial increment of a weight load of a plurality of increments of a total weight load using a device and measuring at least a portion of the shape of the object under a next increment of a total weight load of a plurality of increments of a weight load using the device. Repeating the measurements until a total weight load is achieved and comparing the measurements from the device under the plurality of incremental weight loads, thereby determining a mobility of at least the portion of said object under the plurality of increments of weight loads. The method further includes adjusting the elevation and angular orientation of a support surface for the object to achieve further measurements and a device for obtaining such measurements. The method further includes comparing the mobility of a present object to a normal-object to determine a deviation. The normal-object is a statistical sample of a prior normal-object mobility.

Compact optical contour digitizer

This disclosure provides for an impression scanner system having improved calibration having a housing and a calibration plate of known geometry. The calibration plate has a plurality of different shapes thereon. The system also has a radiation source for emitting radiation towards the shapes on the plate and a surface for reflecting images created by the radiation on the shapes. A sensor for receiving the images of the shapes as the plate moves relative to the housing is also provided. A processor compares known geometry of the plate to the images received by the sensor and calibrates the sensor based upon the known geometry and images to reduce system aberration and distortion.

There is provided a foot measuring system that includes a support surface for a foot, a plurality of movable measurement structures, an inflatable diaphragm for contacting the first end of each structure and forcing a movement of each structure from an initial position toward a measurement position, a measurement device for measuring the measurement position relative to the initial position of each structure, after the movement of each structure, to determine a shape of the foot. Each structure of the plurality of movable structures has a first end and a second end. The present invention also includes a method for measuring the contours of a foot.

An apparatus for measuring a person's plantar contour having a foam impression block with a toe thickness and a heel thickness wherein the toe thickness is less than the heel thickness. A method for measuring a person's plantar contour using such a foam impression block by placing the plantar contour of the person's foot over the foam impression block such that the toes are over the toe thickness and the heel is over the heel thickness; and then pressing the plantar contour into the block to deform the block.

Method and apparatus for measuring foot geometry

The invention includes both a method and apparatus for measuring the shape of a surface of an object, such as a human foot. The apparatus includes a support for holding a compliant sheet of known color and retro-reflectivity. The compliant sheet conforms to the shape of the undersurface of the foot. A scanner scans a light beam along the undersurface of the compliant sheet from a vantage point that is below the compliant sheet. A sensor detects reflected light from the undersurface of the compliant sheet and feeds corresponding light value signals to a processor. The processor analyzes the signals and determines distance values to portions of the compliant sheet. The distance values enable a contour to be derived that is representative of the undersurface of the foot.

Optical contour digitizer

The method of the invention maps pressure applied by resilient body surface onto a plurality of movable gauge pins. The method includes the steps of: providing relative movement between the resilient body and the movable gauge pins to cause the gauge pins to come into contact with the body so as to define a three dimensional surface which approximates the surface of the body; measuring the position of each of the gauge pins as a reference position of each; using a spring element to apply a pressure to each of the gauge pins; measuring a position of each of the gauge pins after application of the pressure, to determine a test position of each gauge pin; subtracting the reference position of each gauge pin from the test position of each gauge pin to determine a pressure displacement of each gauge pin; and utilizing the pressure displacement and a spring constant of the spring elements which applied the pressure to the movable gauge pins to derive a pressure exerted upon each gauge pin by the resilient body surface to enable a subsequent analysis thereof.

System and method for determining pressure distribution across the sole

Apparatus for determining a contour of the underside of a person's foot includes an array of gauge pins supported by a first support structure and disposed in spaced relation for independent, guided movement along their longitudinal axes. An inflatable diaphragm elevates the gauge pins into extended positions until they contact the underside of the foot. A camera, forward of the gauge pin array, is pointed towards the gauge pin array. An initial reference image is captured of the gauge pins in their retracted position. The person's foot is then placed on the first support structure and the gauge pins are elevated (by means of the diaphragm). The gauge pins are locked in place; the foot is removed and an image of the conforming gauge pin array is acquired by the camera, using ambient light. The image is sent to a processor which analyzes the image and compares it to the reference image to determine the new location of the tops of the gauge pins. The apparatus also allows measurement of the top surface of the foot, including the heel. This is accomplished via an optical scanning system which makes use of a light bar projector in conjunction with a camera to first scan the top of the gauge element array to acquire a reference image for each light bar position. Then, a person's foot is placed on the gauge pin array and the entire foot is scanned. The resulting images enable the processor to determine the contour of the upper portion of the foot.

Foot contour digitizer

A mill suitable for use in an office environment because is constructed to collect particulates produced by the milling process without producing an undue amount of noise by this collection process. An isolation wall substantially eliminates particulate flow from the milling cavity into a motor/control cavity. A positive-pressure air flow through the motor/control cavity further reduces particulate transfer from the milling cavity into the motor/control cavity and draws these particulates into a particulate collection tray.
