A system and method for contact-based spatial frequency domain imaging. A medium to be imaged is contacted by a sheet comprising an array of lighting elements generating illumination light patterns illuminating the medium, and comprising an array of sensor elements measuring spatially resolved images of resulting light patterns reflected back after interaction of the illumination light patterns with the medium. The lighting elements generate illumination light patterns that are spatially modulated in light intensity along a surface of the illuminated medium according to a respective different spatial frequency. A set of spatially modulated images is determined based on the measured resulting light patterns caused by the different illumination light patterns. An image of the medium can be generated based on a combination of the spatially modulated images.

Spatial frequency domain imaging system and method

A method and system are proposed for imaging the retinal structure of an eye. A light source is provided and a repetitive pattern is projected on the retina by said hght source having illuminated and non-illuminated portions with a spatial frequency larger than 0.5 mm-1. For the illuminated and non-illuminated portions a fluorescence level is measured; and a fluorescence level is derived as a corrected value for illuminated and non-illuminated areas.

Quantitative retinal imaging

The invention relates to a method to determine the wavelength dependent absorption coefficient of a turbid medium using overlapping illumination-detection areas comprising the steps of a) retrieving a calibration spectrum (CA) from a reference measurement using a reference sample; b) carrying out a measurement on an actual sample for determining the absolute reflection spectrum (R) using a raw spectrum measured on the sample (S) and the calibration spectrum (C); C) using the absolute reflection spectrum (R) for determining the wavelength dependent absorption coefficient by minimizing the difference between the measured absolute reflection spectrum (R) and a model function (R). wherein the model function (R) is modelled using a predetermined equation based on prior knowledge of the combination of a dependence of the effective photon path length (L) on a scattering phase function (PF); a dependence of the absolute reflectance in the absence of absorption (R) on scattering phase function (PF). The invention further relates to a system and a computer program product for determining the wavelength dependent absorption coefficient of a turbid medium.

Method to determine the absorption coefficient in turbid media

Dynamic colorectal PDT methods, devices and photosensitizer compositions to treat abnormal cell growth in anal tissue such as perianal and intra-anal intraepithelial neoplasia grade III are presented. Dynamic colorectal PDT method comprises the steps of administering topically, intravenously or orally a photosensitizer composition; irradiating; monitoring treatment parameters before, during and/or after irradiation. Photosensitizer composition comprises Temoporfin and excipients/carriers, appropriate for the application method. An applicator is provided for colorectal PDT treatments enhancing irradiation delivery and monitoring treatment parameters. Preferably, applicator is made of a material, used to monitor the fluence rate simultaneously while doing optical spectroscopy. Measurement probe devices are provided for monitoring PDT treatment parameters in-vivo. A device for colorectal PDT treatment is also provided, comprising laser radiation source operating at about 400 and 800 nm; excitation laser radiation source operating at about 650 nm for fluorescence measurements; multichannel dosimetry device; long pass filter; waveguides and measurement probes.

Dynamic colorectal PDT application

A method and a device determine a physical property of a medium, such as a concentration of a substance in the medium. The device includes a light source; a probe with optical fibers positioned alongside each other, with a first optical fiber delivering radiation from the light source to a sample and collecting first backscattered radiation from the sample, and with a second optical fiber collecting second backscattered radiation; a spectrometer for producing first and second signals based on the first and second backscattered radiation; and a processor which determines a differential backscatter signal from the first and second signals and to calculate the physical property by curve fitting the measured differential backscatter signal to a backscatter function. Depending on whether the diameter of the optical fibers is smaller or greater than the mean free path of photons in the sample, different backscatter functions are used.
