The present inventions relates to a process for producing polyethylene compositions comprising polymerizing polyethylene resins in a cascaded multi-stage reaction in which the reaction steps are performed in at least two slurry phase reactors (A) and (B) and at least one gas phase reactor (C) which are arranged in series in any order wherein in reactor (A) a low molecular weight ethylene homo- or copolymer fraction having a MFRof 100 to 2000 g/10 min, in reactor (B) a low molecular weight ethylene homo- or copolymer fraction having an MFRof 100 to 2000 g/10 min, and in reactor (C) a high molecular weight ethylene copolymer fraction are polymerized, and further comprising a compounding step after polymerization, wherein the final polyethylene composition has a MFRof 3 to 50 g/10 min, the melt flow rates being determined according to ISO 1133.

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a multimodal A-olefin polymer comprising polymerizing in a polymerization stage at least one A-olefin in the presence of a multisite catalyst and an adjuvant so as to produce a polymer having a relatively lower molecular weight component and a relatively higher molecular weight component, said adjuvant being selected from the group consisting of phosphines, phosphites, acetylenes, dienes, thiophenes and aluminium alkyls and said adjuvant being capable of altering the ratio of the fraction of higher molecular weight component to the fraction of the lower molecular weight component by at least 10%.

The catalyst system is prepared by a method comprising the steps of calcining the support, joining onto the surface of the support a chronium-organic compound, subjecting the obtained catalyst precursor to oxidizing conditions to obtain the chromium in an oxidized state, reducing the oxidized chromium to obtain a main part thereof in a bivalent oxidation state, and contacting the reduced catalyst with the metallocene compound.

Catalyst system for ethylene polymerizations

A particulate, modified chromium oxide catalyst for the polymerisation of ethylene or ethylene with &agr;-olefins, comprising: a) a chromium-oxide catalyst, b) a transition metal compound, and c) a catalyst activator. A method for the preparation of the catalyst comprises the steps of: a) subjecting a chromium oxide catalyst precursor, which comprises a chromium oxide compound combined with an inorganic support, to a temperature in the range of from 400 to 950&deg; C. under oxidising conditions, and b) impregnating the obtained chromium catalyst with a catalyst activator and with a transition metal compound which comprises at least one cyclopentadienylic ring bonded to said transition metal and at least ligand selected from the group comprising alkoxy, amido and hydrocarbyl radicals, halogen and hybride bonded to said transition metal, which cyclopentadienylic ring may contain hetero atoms, be unsubstituted or substituted, be bonded to said transition metal through a bridge, and optionally annealed to other substituted or unsubstituted ring structures, and if two cyclopentadienyl rings are present they may be bonded to each other through a bridge, and c) subjecting the thus obtained particulate catalyst to drying conditions. This catalyst is suitable for producing polyethylenes under conditions of continuous feeding of all reactants.

Catalyst for the (co)polymerization of ethylene and a method for the preparation thereof

A process for the production of a propylene based polymer, the process comprising the following steps: (a) a first polymerization stage comprising homopolymerizing propylene or copolymerizing propylene and at least one alpha-olefin in the presence of an alpha-olefin polymerization catalyst whereby to produce a polypropylene component; (b) a second polymerization stage comprising copolymerizing ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin in the presence of an alpha-olefin polymerization catalyst whereby to produce an ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer component; and (c) blending the polymer components produced in steps (a) and (b) whereby to produce a polymer blend, wherein the first and second polymerization stages are effected in separate polymerization reactors connected in parallel. Also provided are polymer compositions comprising: (i) 30 to 97% by weight, based on the total weight of the polymer composition, of a propylene based polymer; and (ii) 3 to 70% by weight, preferably 5 to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the polymer composition, of an ethylene copolymer plastomer (e.g., an ethylene-propylene plastomer) containing at least 60% by weight ethylene.

Process for producing propylene based polymer compositions

This invention relates to a process for the preparation of olefin polymers, preferably a multi-stage process, in which hydrogen is used to control the molecular weight of the olefin polymer produced in a continuous reactor, in particular a process wherein a metallocene or other single site catalyst is present in the polymerization reaction mixture, as well as to olefin polymers produced thereby.

Olefin polymers are prepared in a plurality of polymerization stages, optionally in a plurality of polymerization reactors, in the presence of hydrogen and an olefin polymerization multisite catalyst, preferably a dualsite catalyst, having at least catalytic sites A and B, site A capable of yielding polymers of different molecular weights and differing MFR or MFR depending on the concentration of hydrogen in the polymerization reactor and site B capable of yielding polymers of certain molecular weight and MFR or MFR depending on the concentration of hydrogen in the polymerization reactor where the ratio between MFR or MFR of polymers produced by site B at two different selected hydrogen concentrations is less than ten and the ratio between MFR or MFR of polymers produced by site A at the same hydrogen concentrations is more than 50.
