Power umbilical () comprising a plurality of power cables () for electric power transmission, elongated filler elements (), and an outer sheath (). The elongated filler elements () abut against each other at abutment faces (), thereby forming a complete ring enclosing the power cables (). The elongated filler elements () comprise cable recesses () within which the power cables () are embedded. The power umbilical () further comprises one or more friction control profiles (), wherein the material of the friction control profile () is softer than the material of the elongated filler elements (). The one or more friction control profiles () are arranged in a deformed state.

Power umbilical and method

A power umbilical for transfer of large amounts of electric power, fluids and electric current/signals from the sea surface to equipment deployed on the sea bed, in particular in deep waters includes a number of electric power conducting cables, pipes and electric conductors/wires collected in a bundle, a filler material lying at least partly around and between the pipes, cables and the conductors/wires, and a protective sheath enclosing the pipes, cables conductors/wires and filler material. The load carrying elements of the power umbilical are light weighted rods of composite material that can either be collected in bundles or appear individually or in a combination thereof.

An SZ laying machine for umbilical/power umbilical is described. Starting from an input end the machine includes: a first die receiving and collecting a first set of elongate elements substantially rectilinear from respective supplies of elongate elements, a second static die which receives and collects a second set of elongate elements substantially rectilinear from respective supplies of elongate elements and this second set is closed together with the first set into an assembled bundle, at least one supporting means which keeps the assembled bundle radially in place; a revolving device able to torsional rotate the bundle back and forth in an oscillating SZ manner, and a tape or band winding apparatus which in immediate proximity to the revolving device applies band or tape circumferentially onto the SZ laid bundle of elongate elements.

A power umbilical, a DEH power cable or general umbilical, including a plurality of high power cables for transfer of large amounts of electric energy, filler material in the form of stiff elongate plastic elements located at least partially around and between the high power cables, which together are collectively gathered in a spiraled bundle by means of a laying and closing operation, and a protective sheath that encapsulates the high power cables and the filler material is shown. The high power cables are at intervals in the longitudinal direction of the cables, provided with frictional material which cooperate with the filler material for frictional engagement with and load transfer between each other.

An umbilical for transfer of fluids and electric current/signals between the sea surface and equipment deployed on the sea bed, in particular in deep waters, is disclosed. The umbilical comprises a number of pipes and electric conductors/wires collected in a bundle, a filler material lying at least partly around and between the pipes and the conductors/wires, and a protective sheath enclosing the pipes, conductors/wires and filler material. The load carrying elements of the umbilical are light weighted rods of composite material that can either be collected in bundles or appear individually or in a combination thereof.

Umbilical

An umbilical includes a number of fluid pipes, electric wires and/or optical conductors, filler material located at least partially around and between the fluid pipes and the wires/conductors, and they are collectively gathered in a twisted bundle by a laying operation. The umbilical further includes a protective jacket that encompasses the fluid pipes, the wires/conductors and the filler material, and at least one load carrying element located in the cross section of the umbilical. Optionally, one or more fluid pipes constitute load carrying elements. The fluid pipes, the wires/conductors, the filler material and the at least one load carrying element, are alternately laid, i.e. by continuously alternating direction, in the entire or part of the longitudinal extension of the umbilical.

A power umbilical is shown that comprises a number of power cables () to transfer large amounts of electric power, optionally electric wires and/or optical conductors (), filler material () in the form of rigid elongated plastic elements that are located at least partially around and between the power cables () and the optional wires/conductors (), and they are collectively gathered in a twisted bundle by means of a laying operation. A protective jacket () encompasses the power cables (), the optional wires/conductors (), the filler material (), and at least one load carrying element () predetermined located in the cross section of the power umbilical. The power cables (), the optional wires/conductors (), the filler material () and the at least one load carrying element (), are alternately laid, i.e. by continuously alternating direction, in the entire or part of the longitudinal extension of the power umbilical. This is combined with that the laid bundle is retained or maintained substantially rotationally rigid by the protective jacket (), possibly by the addition of a strength band, or tape, which is helically wound around the bundle adjacent to the protective jacket ().

A connector () for releasable connection between an anchorage in the form of a female part () arranged on a floating means and a male part () formed at the end of a retrievable umbilical () provided with a bend stiffener () is disclosed. The male part () comprises a mandrel body () having a pulling head () for connection to a pulling means at one end and the umbilical () at the other end. The male part () comprises a sleeve formed body () that is fixed to the mandrel body () by shearable elements (). The bend stiffener () is fixed directly to the sleeve formed body () and is designed for abutment against and parking together with the bend stiffener () within the female part () while the remaining part of the male part () including the umbilical () is designed to be pulled further up through the female part () for fluid communication and connection on a floating means or a vessel.

A marine, flexible, integrated umbilical (for control, injection or production) including a number of fluid flow pipes () and optionally electric conductors (), and a filler material between the fluid flow pipes and the possible electric conductors. The filler material includes several inner and outer channel elements () being twisted about the longitudinal axis of the umbilical and assembled such that they form channels () for receiving the fluid flow pipes and the possible electric conductors. An outer sheath () of suitable material is present outside the filler material. An armouring and weight applying band is wrapped around the filler material and is laid between the filler material and the outer sheath () in the finished umbilical ().

Subsea umbilical

A dynamic control cable string or umbilical intended to hang in catenary form between a connection point on the seabed and a connection point located at the sea surface which can be attached to a floating structure; the umbilical is of the type that is low in weight per running meter and comprises flowlines and optionally current-conducting cables, all of which are twisted around the longitudinal axis of the string and are spaced apart from an axially extending core member and lie in channels in spacers for free axial movement of the cables and conduits in the channels; the core member, throughout the entire length of the control cable string functions as a load-bearing member and, in a portion of the length, all fluid transport and signal communication takes place peripherally relative to the core member.

A subsea control cable includes an outer sheath and cables, conduits etc. arranged inside the sheath, and also at least one weight element. The weight element includes at least one strength member extending continuously along the entire length of the control cable, to which strength member there is attached a weight element or elements. The weight of the weight element in relation to the diameter of the control cable varies along the length of the control cable, e.g., from a predetermined minimum weight/diameter ratio, where the weight element consists only of the strength element, to a predetermined maximum weight/diameter ratio, where the cross-section of the control cable is filled to the maximum with the weight member.
