A method for performing melody detection comprises interpreting the global perceptual effect of all the sounds at once, to determine what is the melody actually perceived by the human ear, and providing a music sheet or a text printout including a time sequence of single notes describing that melody.

Method and apparatus for performing melody detection

A method of estimating the distance between a first wireless communication terminal and a second wireless communication terminal includes: receiving a signal at the first terminal, processing the received signal including performing a demodulation operation to produce a demodulated signal; and resolving the demodulated signal into a plurality of components corresponding to different path length components included in the received signal; identifying which of the resolved components corresponds to a shortest path length; and for the identified component, computing a time of travel from the second terminal to the first terminal.

Measuring distance using wireless communication

An automatic gain control apparatus (,) and method for a radiotelephone receiver employs stored inverse transfer function data (,) of the radiotelephone receiver and a gain estimation circuit (,). The gain estimation circuit (,) estimates the input power of received signal (,) and determines a required gain based on a nonlinear portion of the inverse transfer function data (,) of the radiotelephone receiver to provide an improved dynamic range of the receiver. The apparatus and method performs convergence within one iteration to perform fast gain control. In addition, if desired, a DC offset compensation circuit, such as a feedforward DC offset compensation circuit (,), compensates the digital representation of the input signal for use by the gain estimation circuit (,).

Radiotelephone receiver and method with improved dynamic range and DC offset correction

A radio is described having a synthesizer (17) and a VCO (18). Each of the synthesizer and the VCO has a connection to a ground plane (13) of the radio. The ground plane connection of the VCO has a first capacitor (43) and a further ground connection (40) is provided between the VCO and the synthesizer for providing a common baseband ground for the VCO and the synthesizer, isolated with respect to baseband frequency currents in the ground plane of the radio. The arrangement addresses problems arising in radios having power amplifiers with severe output amplifier variations, such as are found in linear radios.

A two-way radio having a receiver (20) for receiving a radio signal including a voice message, a storage element (45) coupled to the receiver for storing the voice message received, a voice input device (49) for inputting voice messages, a user-actuable selection input (15) for receiving a user input to change between a transmit mode and a repeat mode and a transmitter (21) selectively coupled to the storage element and the voice input device for selectively transmitting input voice messages when in the transmit mode and retransmitting the stored voice message when in the repeat mode. A detection circuit (47) detects the radio signal and a control circuit (50) coupled to the receiver, the transmitter and the detection circuit operates in the repeat mode for activating the transmitter (21) to retransmit the voice message when the detection circuit (47) detects that the radio signal ends.
