One example communication device receives a radio frequency (RF) signal. The communication device may include a radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) that includes an internal attenuator. The RFIC and other processing circuitry may convert the received RF signal to a baseband frequency to generate a processed complex baseband signal. A digital signal processor of the communication device may determine, based on detection of or lack of detection of distortion terms in a frequency spectrum of the processed complex baseband signal at frequencies corresponding to integer multiples of a symbol rate of a linear modulation interferer, a modulation type of an interferer signal that forms at least part of the processed complex baseband signal. The digital signal processor may also control whether the internal attenuator is enabled based on a received signal strength indication (RSSI) of a desired RF signal and the modulation type of the interferer signal.

One method includes providing, using a local oscillator, a first intermediate frequency, detecting, using an interferer detector, an adjacent or alternate channel interference signal and an image of the adjacent or adjacent channel interference signal causing interference with a desired signal, and determining, using an electronic processor, whether the desired signal is an analog signal. In response to determining that the desired signal is an analog signal, the method includes controlling, using the electronic processor, the local oscillator to provide a second intermediate frequency. In response to determining that the desired signal is not an analog signal, the method includes determining, using the electronic processor, a switching condition based on the desired signal, and controlling, using the electronic processor, the local oscillator to provide the second intermediate frequency in response to determining the switching condition.

Systems and methods for radiofrequency component performance measurement using radiated spurious energy. One example embodiment provides a portable communication device. The device includes a transceiver, a digital signal processor coupled to the transceiver, and an electronic processor coupled to the transceiver and the digital signal processor. The electronic processor is configured to tune the transceiver from an operating channel to a self-quieting channel. The electronic processor is configured to receive, from the digital signal processor, a received signal strength indication based a self-quieting signal received via the transceiver. The electronic processor is configured to compare the received signal strength indication for the self-quieting signal to a predetermined reference signal strength indication associated with the self-quieting channel to determine a signal strength difference. The electronic processor is configured to, when the signal strength difference exceeds a threshold, generate a component failure alert based on the signal strength difference.

A portable radio communication system for enabling duplex communication on portable radios is provided. The portable radio communication system comprises a host radio having a host radio antenna and an accessory having an accessory antenna. The host radio antenna is operated to receive signals simultaneously on at least two channels during a dual watch mode of operation or receive signals on a single channel during a single watch mode of operation. The portable radio communication system further comprises at least one switch coupled to the host radio antenna and the accessory antenna. The switch enables duplex communication during the dual watch mode of operation or single watch mode of operation by routing transmit signals from the host radio to the accessory antenna for transmission while the host radio antenna receives signals during the dual watch mode of operation or single watch mode of operation.

System for enabling duplex communication on portable radios

A receiver for a wireless communication device provides a dual path receiver receiving first and second protocol-agnostic, uncorrelated receive signals simultaneously. The dual path receiver generating first and second offset IF signals from the simultaneously received first and second protocol-agnostic, uncorrelated receive signals. The receiver utilizes at least one converter for converting the first and second offset IF signals into at least one serial synchronous interface (SSI) signal representing the spectrum at IF. At least one processor receives the at least one SSI signal and applies parallel processing paths to demodulate the at least one SSI signal into separate baseband signals. The processor provides interference detection of, and level control for, the first and second offset IF signals.

Apparatus and method for a dual watch receiver

An apparatus and method for receiving and processing multiple independent, uncorrelated RF signals is presented. The apparatus includes a Hybrid-Direct Conversion Receiver incorporating front end branches, protocol-specific digital processing branches, an interference detector, a correlator, and an offset control for controlling oscillator sources. The front end branches each contain a preselector that filters received signals and a mixer that down converts the received signal to an IF offset from a reference frequency by a unique offset. The bandwidth of an IF processor is partitioned into sub-channels corresponding to the different offsets and is wider than the combination of the sub-channels. The interference detector and correlator determine whether a particular desired signal is degraded by interference signals and select a new sub-channel. This information is provided to the offset control, which adjusts a LO source coupled to the corresponding down mixer accordingly.
