A liquid composition comprising a high-capacity aqueous carrier in which (i) a metalloid compound selected from the group consisting of antimony and germanium compounds and (ii) morpholine or derivative thereof are dissolved in the presence of (iii) unsaturated alcohol and (iv) water-soluble organic acid having reducing capacity, wherein the total concentration of said four components is preferably not less than 5% relative to the total weight of the composition. The composition is useful as a corrosion inhibitor. Also provided is a process for preparing the composition.

Liquid composition suitable for use as a corrosion inhibitor and a method for its preparation

A method is described for producing n-propyl bromide of a high degree of purity, which contains isopropyl bromide in an amount lower than 0.1% w/w, and usually lower than 0.05%. The method is characterized in that n-propanol is reacted with HBr which is in gas form, preferably dry, and which is in excess over the stoichiometric amount, wherein the excess HBr is at the end of the reaction in an aqueous solution formed from the reaction water. The invention further relates to N-propyl bromide of high purity, containing typically less than 500 ppm of isopropyl bromide.

Method for the preparation of n-propyl bromide

The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of mixtures of 3-phenoxybenzyl bromide and 3-pnenoxybenzal bromide using dibromodimethylhydantoin as brominating agent. According to the process, the reaction between the m-phenoxytoluene and the brominating agent is carried out in a non-polar solvent at temperatures above 65 degrees C. The molar ratio between the reactants is selected in the range of between 0.5:1 to 1.25:1 of the brominating agent towards the 3-phenoxytoluene. In a preferred embodiment, a radical initiator is incorporated being selected from the group consisting of ultraviolet rays and compounds containing azo-groups, peroxides or mixtures thereof. According to a most preferred embodiment the addition of the free radical and of the brominating agent is carried out gradually. The process is characterized by its very high yield, the products obtained being of a very high quality.
