An antenna is described. This antenna includes: a ground plane; and antenna elements that are positioned in a first horizontal plane offset along a vertical direction from the ground plane. Moreover, the antenna elements are configured to generate a beam having a horizontal polarization. Furthermore, the antenna includes a planar reflector that is positioned in a second horizontal plane offset along the vertical direction from the first ground plane, so that the antenna elements are positioned between the ground plane and the planar reflector. During operation, a first reflection from the ground plane, the beam from the antenna elements, a second reflection from the planar reflector and diffractions from edges of the ground plane and the planar reflector combine to generate an antenna radiation pattern having a main beam approximately in a horizontal direction, e.g., at 10-15&#xb0; from the horizontal direction.

Antenna with enhanced azimuth gain

An apparatus and method are taught for instantiation of a plurality of high-frequency antennas in a limited space in a manner that provides good isolation. The instantiation may include relative rotations of linear conductors, mirror images, as well as horizontally and vertically polarized antennas. In one embodiment, the antennas may be multi-band antennas.

Systems and methods are disclosed for returning RF components which exhibit a mismatch with a coupled load. A tuning circuit may be coupled to a signal path of the RF component, wherein the tuning circuit includes a plurality of loads, a switching element associated with each load, wherein each switching element brings the associated load into and out of the signal path, a control line for each switching element, and a phase stage configured to introduce a phase shift, such as 90&#xb0;, between a first subset of the loads and a second subset of the loads. The disclosure also includes routines for establishing optimum settings for the tuning circuit.

System and method for programmable matching of detuned RF components

Antenna arrays providing high gain during wireless communications are highly desirable for many applications including, but not limited to, multiple-in multiple-out (MIMO) streams and video transmissions. Optimized antenna arrays should also ensure ease of manufacture, thereby enhancing commercial viability. Circular antenna arrays including horn antennas or Yagi antennas are described, each circular antenna array ensuring ease of manufacture.

Circular antenna array systems

A wireless communication device may be configured to transmit and receive data through a physical device, such as a cable. Relatively higher transmit radio frequency (RF) signals from the wireless communication device may be shifted to a relatively lower frequency, thereby enabling the relatively lower frequency signals to be carried by the physical device. Similarly, relatively lower frequency signals from the physical device may be shifted to relatively higher frequencies, thereby enabling the wireless communication device to receive the signals from the physical device. In one embodiment, the frequency of the RF signals may be between 2.3 and 2.7 GHz and the frequency of the relatively lower frequency shifted signals may be between 900 and 1100 MHz.

Apparatus for coupling a wireless communication device to a physical device

A dual band radio is constructed using a primary and secondary transceiver. The primary transceiver is a complete radio that is operational in a stand alone configuration. The secondary transceiver is a not a complete radio and is configured to re-use components such as fine gain control and fine frequency stepping of the primary transceiver to produce operational frequencies of the secondary transceiver. The primary transceiver acts like an intermediate frequency device for the secondary transceiver. Switches are utilized to divert signals to/from the primary transceiver from/to the secondary transceiver. The switches are also configured to act as gain control devices. Antennas are selected using either wideband or narrowband antenna switches that are configured as a diode bridge having high impedance at operational frequencies on control lines that bias the diodes.

Dual frequency band wireless LAN

The present invention provides a planar antenna having a scalable multi-dipole structure for receiving, and transmitting high-frequency signals, including a plurality of opposing layers of conducting strips disposed upon either side of an insulating (dielectric) substrate. The dipoles are bifurcated between sides of a substrate on which the dipoles are disposed. A feed line is balanced to a co-axial cable and feeds one half of the bifurcated dipoles, and an independent feed line is connected to the other half of the bifurcated dipoles. Sets of the dipoles are arranged symmetrically around a center axis of the feed lines. The sets of dipoles are in series with other sets of dipoles. The antenna is ideally suited for operation in the 5.15-5.35 GHz RF band.

Planar high-frequency antenna

The present invention provides a planar antenna having a scalable multi-dipole structure for receiving, and transmitting high-frequency signals, including a plurality of opposing layers of conducting strips disposed upon either side of an insulating (dielectric) substrate.

Parallel-feed planar high-frequency antenna

A dual mode, substantially planar antenna utilizes a dipole or monopole structure for receiving and transmitting high-frequency signals. Layers of conductive strips are disposed on opposite sides of an insulating (dielectric) substrate, such as printed circuit board material. First and second antenna elements are connected via an LC trap, the first antenna element corresponding to a first mode and the combined elements corresponding to a second mode. The LC trap is a single component inductor with parasitic capacitance sufficient to implement the LC trap or a set of patterns printed on the substrate. In one embodiment, the LC trap is constructed with only a single via through the substrate. The antenna is ideally suited for combined 5.5 GHz and 2.4 GHz RF operations.
