A method and system for printing documents are provided. New print jobs are automatically analysed with respect to the device-specific properties of the individual pages and each page is designated, on the basis of the analysis, either for processing on a printer of the first type or the second type. Then, the jobs are made locally available for printing on each of the printers. A user may locally start a job on any of the printers and that printer then automatically selects and prints only the pages of the job that are designated for processing on its own type of printer. Then, the user may locally start that same job on any of the printers of the other type and that printer then also automatically selects and prints only the pages of the job designated for processing on its own type of printer.

An apparatus, such as in a copying machine, by which an original sheet and a light-sensitive sheet can be fed along separate feed paths toward and onto one another and then one upon another through a station for exposure of the light-sensitive sheet to a light image of the original sheet is provided with a control system, including a separating device disposed to act on the sheets passing from the exposure station, whereby after an exposure the original sheet can be led away from the light-sensitive sheet irrespective of the relative position of the sheets fed for the exposure. A detector sensing the leading edge of an original sheet in its own feed path, activates the control system which in turn puts the separating device into operation after the lapse of a period of time corresponding to the time of transport of the leading edge of the original sheet from the detector up to the separating device. The separating device is de-activated, as by another detector disposed in a sheet discharge path, when the leading portion of the separated original sheet passes out of the range of action of the separating device.

An apparatus for delivering web material or the like from rolls comprises a rotatable holder that holds a plurality of web supply rolls and for each roll is provided with a separate support member for supporting the free end of a portion of the web unwound from the roll. The roll holder is movable between a plurality of positions in each of which one of the supply rolls is in an active position at a location where a portion of its web can be unwound and transported over a cutting edge provided on the related support member, and where a cutting element separate from the holder can be operated to cut off a sheet of required length from the unwound material of the positioned supply roll by cooperation with the related cutting edge.

A position control system in a copying apparatus keeps an original positioned properly during multiple passes of the original through a transport path, for making multiple copies, by detecting the position of an edge of the original in the first pass, when the original is fed into the apparatus; setting a reference condition corresponding to the then existent side edge position; and in each subsequent pass of the original detecting its position and in the event of a deviation of the detected position from the position represented by the reference condition activating a position correcting device to displace the original to the latter position. In one embodiment, at least one detector to sense the location of a side edge of an original is reciprocated across the path of that edge during the first pass and, upon sensing the side edge, is stopped at a location corresponding to the position of the original; after which, in each ensuing pass of the original, the detector will issue a correcting signal if the position of the original differs from that for which the detector is positioned. In another embodiment, detectors arranged in a row across the path of a side edge of the original produce output signals which on the first pass of the original are stored in a memory, and on each subsequent pass of the original are compared with the memory condition, with resultant issuance of a correcting signal if the original is not in the desired position.
