The invention relates to compositions comprising an ester of a polyol and a mixture of fatty acids, wherein at least a part (I) the esterified fatty acids has a chain length of 5-12 carbon atoms and another part (II) of the esterified fatty acids has a chain length of 16-22 carbon atoms, and wherein the composition has a viscosity of 7000 mm /s or less, when tested according to ASTM (D2531). Such compositions have unexpected good low temperature properties, in particular a good rheology after having been kept for a prolonged time at a low temperature (e.g. at &minus;30&deg; C.). These compositions are suitable for use as (part of) hydraulic fluid in applications at low temperatures.

Hydraulic fluids

The invention relates to novel ester lubricants which can be used in combination with a hydrocarbon base fluid. The ester lubricants are mixtures of esters based on a 2-alkyl-substituted propane diol-1,3, a trimethylol alkane (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4), optionally a C.sub.5 -C.sub.15 -ether diol and a mixture of C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 - and C.sub.12 -C.sub.18 -monocarboxylic acids.

Ester lubricants

This invention provides certain complex molecules which possess excellent solubility in water and excellent reactivity making them useful in the manufacture of non-woven products and processes for their preparation. The compositions are comprised of structural units derived from a higher polycarboxylic acid and about one mole of a di-epoxide per carboxyl group, about 0.5 to 1.5 moles of an alkoxy polyoxyalkylene compound and about 0.5 to 1.5 moles of an alkanolamine neutralized with a lower monocarboxylic acid.

Improved water-emulsifiable ester lubricants for polymeric and metal materials are provided which yield stable emulsions even in the absence of emulsifying agents. The ester lubricants are obtainable from a higher molecular weight di- or polycarboxylic acid and a polyalkoxylated lower alkyl alcohol.
