A method for manufacturing a roll for use in the production of paper in which the roll is coated by thermal spraying. A sealing-agent solution is spread onto a coating of the roll which is produced by thermal spraying to seal pores in the coating, the sealing-agent solution is then allowed to be absorbed into the pores in the coating. The roll is heated in order to eliminate the water from the sealing-agent solution, and upon elimination of the water, the sealing-agent solution crystallizes in the pores in the coating after which the roll is allowed to cool. Method for manufacturing a roll for use in the production of paper

The invention concerns a roll for use in the production of paper, in particular a center roll in a press section of a paper making machine, with which the web is in direct contact and from which the web is detached. In the invention, a composite structure has been formed onto the cylinder mantle of the roll. According to the invention, the roll face is provided with a surface layer which protects the roll from wear and which provides good properties for detaching of the web, this surface layer being formed by thermal spraying of a powder wherein metal and ceramic phases are in the same powder particle. The roll face is additionally provided with a dense layer for protection against corrosion, which layer is made of stainless steel whose chromium content is 10 to 29% and which layer is placed between the surface layer and the roll mantle. The function of the layer for protection from corrosion is to protect the roll mantle from corrosion and to promote the adhesion of the surface coating to the roll. The invention also concerns a method for the manufacture of the roll.

Method of manufacture of a roll for use in paper production

The present invention concerns a roll used in the manufacture of paper, for example a central roll in a press or a calender roll, with which the web is in direct contact and from which the web is detached. A coating has been formed onto a cylinder mantle of the roll, the coating being partly made of metal and also including a ceramic material. An outer face of the coating is formed of carbide-rich areas and of matrix areas placed between the carbide-rich areas. The present invention also concerns a method for manufacturing such a roll.

A roll for use in paper making has a surface comprising a porous material in which the press have been sealed by an electrolyte to achieve optimal paper web dewatering capacity, lessen adherence of a paper web to the roll surface, and to improve the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of the roll coating. A method for making the roll by electrochemical deposition of the electrolyte in the pores of the roll surface is also disclosed.
