In TDMA systems it is possible to transmit data on more than one consecutive slot per frame. This introduces increased workloads on the power amplifier of the transmitter of the mobile station. To prevent the power amplifier from overheating, temperature sensing means are incorporated into the mobile station which output to a control system comprising a comparator and feedback means which together regulate the operation of the transmitter if the power amplifier approaches or exceeds it upper rated operating value. Thereby preventing the power amplifier from damage.

Data transmission in a TDMA system

A method of operating a time division multiple access (TDMA) radio system having multi-slot capabilities and utilizing half-duplex transmission/reception where uplink and downlink user data transmissions between a mobile station (MS)and a base station (BS)are made in separate TDMA frames. A greater number of time slots are allocated to the mobile stationin each downlink TDMA frame than in each uplink TDMA frame to improve the efficiency of radio resource allocation and of the radio moduleof the mobile station

Time division multiple access radio systems

A method and apparatus for updating transmission power class information of a Mobile Station (MS) in a General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) network. The invention updates transmission power class information of the MS in the GPRS network by initiating a Routing Area Update (RAU) procedure in the MS. The RAU procedure includes sending from the MS to a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) of the GPRS network a RAU request message including a MS Radio Access Capability (RAC) Information Element (IE) which includes an IE indicating a new transmission power class of the MS, accepting in the SGSN the IE indicating a new transmission power class of the MS included in the MS RAC of the RAU request message, and delivering to a Base Station (BSS) the IE indicating a new transmission power class of the MS, thereby updating the transmission power class information of the MS at the BSS.

The invention relates to a directional coupler arrangement and measurement of radio frequency electric power with a directional coupler arrangement, which arrangement comprises a directional coupler, in which a terminal impedance, a detector element and a control circuit are connected between the end of the second conductor element and the earth potential. The impedance value of the terminal impedance can be altered by means of an electric control signal and said control circuit produces said control signal on the basis of the signal provided by the detector element. When the detected power level is low, the control circuit increases the impedance value of the terminal impedance, whereby the peak voltage of the signal applied to one end of the directional coupler increases and the arrangement yields a measurement result that is larger than ordinary, which improves the accuracy and reliability of the arrangement at low power levels.
