A calibration arrangement to calibrate a light intensity reading includes a first light emitter to emit light, a first light receiver to receive the emitted light and generate an output signal and a controller to provide a first control signal to the first light emitter to emit a first light pulse during a first period of time, measure a first output signal, provide a second control signal to the first light emitter to emit a second light pulse during a second period of time, measure a second output signal, calculate a second difference between the first output signal and the second output signal and use the calculated second difference to calibrate the light intensity reading.

Calibration arrangement, method for calibrating light intensity reading and a system for determining gaze direction

An eye-tracking system includes light-sensing units, each light-sensing unit including at least three light sensors and converging lens to converge light signals towards one or more of at least three light sensors; and processor(s) configured to: collect sensor data from individual light sensors, sensor data being indicative of respective light intensities of light signals sensed by individual light sensors; determine direction from which light signals are incident upon light-sensing unit, based on differences in light intensities of light signals; determine orientation of user's eye relative to given light-sensing unit, based on direction from which light signals are incident upon light-sensing unit and light intensities of light signals; and determine gaze direction of user's eye, based on orientation of user's eye and position of light-sensing unit relative to user's eye.

An eye-tracking system () comprises light source(s) (); means () for changing direction of light beam () emitted by light source(s), wherein said means is to be employed to steer light beam to scan surface of user's eye (); and light sensor(s) () that is to be employed to sense reflected light signals. Said means is to be employed to detect when light beam is incident upon pupil of user's eye, based on variations in at least one parameter of reflected light signals; and steer light beam to be incident upon centre of pupil, wherein light beam is determined to be incident upon centre of pupil when minimum value from amongst values of at least one parameter of reflected light signals. Eye-tracking system further comprises processor(s) () configured to determine specific direction at which light beam is incident upon centre of pupil; determine position of pupil, based on specific direction, distance of pupil from light source(s), and position of light source(s); and determine gaze direction of user's eye.

An active optical element includes an active material encased between a first substrate and a second substrate, first electrode(s), second electrodes employed as a ground plane, and means for applying and modulating additional impedance between an electrical ground and the second electrodes. The second electrodes divide the active optical element into segments. The first electrode(s) are driven at given voltage(s). At least one of the second electrodes corresponding to at least one of the segments is selectively connected to an electrical ground without any additional impedance, while applying and modulating the additional impedance between the electrical ground and a remainder of the plurality of second electrodes. The active material in the at least one of the plurality of segments is controlled by a potential difference generated between the given voltage(s) and the electrical ground to produce a given optical power.

Devices and methods for detecting a medical sensor device being attached to a host device are disclosed. The host device includes a reader circuit that can generate an AC pilot signal. When the medical sensor device is being attached to the host device, the AC pilot signal is fed to a non-linear circuit in the sensor device, which responds with a DC signal. The host device compares the magnitude of the response signal with a threshold magnitude. If the magnitude of the response signal is greater than the threshold magnitude, the host device determines that the sensor device is being attached and establishes connection with the sensor device.

Device and method for device detection using electrical non-linear characteristics

A wireless sensing device and a method for operating a wireless sensing device are described herein. The wireless sensing device includes a battery power supply and a processor that transmits detected physiological parameters from the sensing device to a monitoring device. when the battery level within the sensing device falls below a minimum threshold, the processor of the sensing device reserves a portion of the battery charge to power an indicator to increase the noticeability of the sensing device. The sensing device can also include an RFID tag that is written to by the processor when the state of charge on the battery falls below the minimum threshold. The RFID tag allows RFID detectors to sense the presence of the sensing device without requiring additional battery power.
