A current operating mode of a lifting device is determined as the lifting device is moving a load in an operating area. An object in the operating area is positioned, in whose area the operation of the lifting device is restricted in comparison with the operating area around the object. A difference between the current operating mode of the lifting device and the restricted operating mode to be applied in the object is determined. On the basis of the difference, the distance travelled by the lifting device is determined when the current operating mode of the lifting device is changed to the operating mode to be applied in the restricted object.

Determining movement distance of lifting device

A system with an apparatus that moves on wheels along a track defined by rails, and comprises two opposite sides carried by two or more wheels. The apparatus comprises detectors, at least one detector in either side of the apparatus in a known spatial connection with a wheel for generating to the control unit a signal that represents a measured lateral distance of a specific part of the wheel from a rail. Signals received from detectors are associated with position data that represents a specific position along the track where the lateral distance of the specific part of the wheel from the rail was measured. Signals received from detectors in spatial connection with wheels in opposite sides of the apparatus are used to generate an indication that represents temporal dimensional compatibility of the apparatus and the track. An effective tool for advanced monitoring interoperability of the apparatus and the track.

Monitoring system and method

A lifting hook is arranged to grab an object to be lifted by a cylindrical lifting surface formed thereto, the lifting hook having a hook shank, a hook part joining the hook shank and a locking device arranged to lock the lifting hook to the object to be lifted. To allow the lifting hook to be reliably attached to the piece to be lifted, a mechanical control device is mounted above the hook part to co-operate with the upper surface of the lifting surface for guiding the hook part to a lifting position onto the lower surface of the lifting surface.

The invention relates to a system for directing an apparatus, such as a crane bridge (1), moving on wheels along rails, which apparatus comprises a specified drive arrangement (m.sub.1, m.sub.2, m.sub.3, m.sub.4 ; k.sub.1, k.sub.2) on both sides of a roadway defined by rails (3), and which system comprises in the apparatus at least on one side of the roadway at least two successive detectors (d.sub.1, d.sub.2) in the direction of the rail (3) for measuring a lateral distance (l.sub.1, l.sub.2) of a specific part of an edge (e.sub.1, e.sub.2) of the apparatus to be driven from the rail, a control loop (CS) guiding the drive arrangements, a controller of the loop being able to direct the distance measurements (l.sub.1, l.sub.2) of the detectors (d.sub.1, d.sub.2) to desired values so that the apparatus to be driven will move straight, and an outer control loop (CU) whose controller is able to direct the reference value of the controller of the inner control loop in such a manner that the average of the distance measurements (l.sub.1, l.sub.2) provided by the detectors (d.sub.1, d.sub.2) reaches the desired reference value so that the wheels (2) of the apparatus to be driven will move in the middle of the rails (3).
