The invention relates to an elevator system and also to a method for monitoring the movement an elevator car. In the method a first emergency braking procedure is activated for braking the elevator car at a first deceleration if the speed of the elevator car exceeds the first limit value for permitted speed, and also a second emergency braking procedure is further activated for braking the elevator car at a second deceleration that is greater than the first, if the speed of the elevator car exceeds the second limit value for permitted speed that is greater than the first limit value for permitted speed.

A suspension device and a suspension arrangement for suspending a cable in an elevator hoistway are provided. The invention relates to an electrical power system for operating elevators. The electrical power system includes: an electricity distribution network of a building, which includes an interface to a public electricity network; a plurality of hoisting machines of an elevator, each of which hoisting machines of an elevator is equipped to move an elevator car in an elevator hoistway; and also a power supply system, which includes an interface to the aforementioned hoisting machines of the elevator, and which power supply system includes an interface to the electricity distribution network of the building, for supplying power between the hoisting machines of the elevator and the electricity distribution network of the building.

Electrical power system with power limiting to network

A power control system is operable for controlling and balancing the generation and/or consumption of electrical power through an internal electricity distribution network connected with at least one electrically driven elevator system. The elevator system is connected to the internal electricity distribution network of a particular building, which can further be connected either to the external public electricity distribution network, or to a reserve power appliance. An elevator system includes at least one elevator, an elevator control system, an elevator motor, a frequency convertor fitted to supply the elevator motor which may be in operation when provided with electricity through an external public electricity distribution network, or during disruption of power. A reserve power appliance provides the required electricity to the elevator system, or the elevator system generates its own sustainable electricity, through active management of its power generation and consumption limits over the internal electricity distribution network.
