Lead manganese-based cathode material for lithium electrochemical systems

A portable hybrid multi-input remote AA battery charger is provided that can recharge as many as four (4) AA batteries at once within 100 minutes. This invention's battery charger for rechargeable batteries can also be powered by a number of the currently available military batteries such as the BA-8180, BA-8140, BA-5590, BA-5390, BB-390, BB-2590, and SP4 batteries. The portable hybrid multi-input remote AA battery charger includes a battery chamber, slots for the AA batteries, a charging circuit, a housing, and a pair of power source connectors. A portable hybrid multi-input remote AA battery charger apparatus and a method for charging AA rechargeable batteries with a portable hybrid multi-input remote AA battery charger are also provided.

A portable multi-input remote AA battery charger is provided that can recharge as many as eight (8) AA batteries at once within 100 minutes. This invention's battery charger for rechargeable batteries can also be powered by a number of the currently available military batteries such as the BA-8180, BA-8140, BA-5590, BA-5390, BB-390, BB-2590, and SP4 batteries. The portable multi-input remote AA battery charger includes at least two (2) battery chambers, slots for the AA batteries, a charging circuit, a housing, and a connector. A portable multi-input remote AA battery charger apparatus and a method for charging AA rechargeable batteries with a portable battery charger are also provided.

Portable multi-input remote AA battery chargers

Reacting MnO, a lithium compound and a bismuth compound produces a lithium battery cathode material for lithium electrochemical systems. The same results can also be achieved by reacting MnO, lithium, or a compound containing lithium and bismuth, or a compound containing bismuth. Manganese based mixed metal oxides with lithium and bismuth were initially examined as a cathode material for rechargeable lithium and lithium-ion batteries in order to provide a new mixed metal oxide cathode material as the positive electrode in rechargeable lithium and lithium ion electrochemical cells. A stable mixed metal oxide was fabricated through a solid-state reaction between manganese dioxide, a lithium compound and bismuth or a bismuth compound. In addition to the lithium battery cathode material, a lithium manganese bismuth mixed metal oxide cathode, a lithium electrochemical system with a lithium manganese bismuth mixed metal oxide and a rechargeable lithium battery with a lithium manganese bismuth mixed metal oxide cathode are also provided. These devices provide much improved sustained specific capacity of about 120 mAhrs/g and the material exhibits an inherent catalytic behavior for charge transfer.

Lithium manganese bismuth mixed metal oxide for rechargeable electrochemicals systems

The present invention provides a manganese bismuth mixed metal oxide cathode material through a solid-state reaction between manganese dioxide, and either bismuth or a bismuth compound in a compound having the general formula MnO(BiO), which affords charge transfer catalytic behavior that allows the cathode to be fully reversible at suppressed charge potentials and increased discharge potentials. The MnO(BiO)cathode material may be incorporated into an electrochemical cell with either a lithium metal or lithium ion anode and an organic electrolyte. The present invention provides a compound with the general formula MnO(BiO), where subscript x is between 0.05 and 0.25, subscript y is about 2 and the overcharge protection is not needed as the subscript z approaches 0.0. In the preferred embodiment, a cathode material where subscript x is between 0.05 and 0.135 with the formula MnO(BiO)provides the much-needed full reversibility, high voltage stability and reduced charge transfer impedance. A manganese bismuth mixed metal oxide cathode for an lithium electrochemical system, a lithium electrochemical system and a rechargeable lithium battery employing the same compound with the general formula MnO(BiO)and methods for making manganese bismuth mixed metal oxide cathode material for lithium electrochemical devices having the general formula MnO(BiO)are also provided.
