A power distribution system includes a bus plug having an electrical switch configured to selectively control energization of the bus plug. The bus plug includes an electrical switch having a control knob operable to selectively control energization of the bus plug, and an actuator having an actuator adaptor coupling that couples movement of the actuator to the control knob. The bus plug includes a partition wall separating the internal volume into a line side and a load side. The bus plug includes an external handle coupled to mechanical linkages, and an adaptor bracket fixed to at least one of the mechanical linkages and oriented to interact with the control knob. The bus plug includes an actuator operable to move the mechanical linkages. Methods of controlling energization of a bus plug with a remote application and communication module configured to operate an actuator are also provided.

Smart bus plug remote actuation, monitoring, and control

A power distribution system includes a plurality of bus plugs. Each of a respective bus plug of the plurality of bus plugs includes an electrical switch configured to selectively control a corresponding energization of the respective bus plug and an actuator operable to control a corresponding electrical switch. The system includes a remote application having commands defining the energization of at least one of the plurality of bus plugs. The system further includes a communication module configured to communicate the commands from the remote application to the at least one of the plurality of bus plugs. The commands cause the corresponding actuator to control the corresponding electrical switch. Methods of controlling energization of a bus plug with a remote application and communication module configured to operate an actuator are also provided.

An electrical switch includes a fixed contact member and a plurality of movable contact fingers that pivot into and out of engagement with the fixed contact member. The electrical switch also includes a fixed magnetic member and a plurality of U-shaped magnetic members housing the plurality of movable contact fingers. Upon occurrence of a fault condition, each of the plurality of U-shaped magnetic members is magnetically pulled towards the fixed magnetic member, without contacting the fixed magnetic member, such that each of the plurality of movable contact fingers is held in engagement with the fixed contact member.

Magnetic circuit arrangement for an electrical switch

A switching assembly includes an operating assembly and a fixed contact assembly including a first fixed contact, a second fixed contact, a third fixed contact, a fourth fixed contact, and a number of terminals. The number of terminals includes a first terminal, a second terminal, and a third terminal. The switching assembly also includes a movable contact assembly that includes a first movable contact and a second movable contact. The first movable contact is movable between a first position and a second position. The second movable contact is movable between a first position and a second position. The operating assembly is coupled to the movable contact assembly and moves the first and second movable contact assemblies between the first and second positions. The switching assembly also includes a shunt assembly including a number of shunts. The shunt assembly is configured in one of a series configuration or a parallel configuration.

Multiple configuration switching assembly

An AC arc fault detection module includes an LF current section, an LF voltage section, and an HF current section having a plurality of outputs, each output being associated with a respective one of a plurality of frequency sub-bands. The HF current section is structured to, for each of the frequency sub-bands, (i) detect a rise in energy of the frequency sub-band above a first predetermined threshold level for at least a certain amount of time and (ii) cause the associated output to indicate a rise in energy detection in response to detecting the rise in energy above the associated threshold level for at least the associated certain amount of time. The module includes a processing device structured to determine whether an AC arc fault has occurred based on the outputs from the LF and HF current and LF voltage sections.

Arc fault detection system and method and circuit interrupter employing same

A DC arc fault detection module includes an LF current section, an LF voltage section, and an HF current section having a plurality of outputs, each output being associated with a respective one of a plurality of frequency sub-bands. The HF current section is structured to, for each of the frequency sub-bands, (i) detect a rise in energy of the frequency sub-band above a first predetermined threshold level for at least a certain amount of time and (ii) cause the associated output to indicate a rise in energy detection in response to detecting the rise in energy above the associated threshold level for at least the associated certain amount of time. The module includes a processing device structured to determine whether a DC arc fault has occurred based on the outputs from the LF and HF current and LF voltage sections.

A DC arc fault detection module includes a current detecting section having at least one output, wherein the current detecting section is structured to determine whether at least one signal based on a current measured from a DC supply line exceeds at least one corresponding predetermined threshold level and cause the at least one output to indicate that the threshold level has been exceeded. The module also includes a processing device structured to: (i) receive the at least one output, (ii) determine whether an arc fault in the DC electrical system has occurred based on at least the at least one output, (iii) determine an estimation of background noise based on at least one signal indicative of a current on the DC supply line, and (iv) adjust the at least one corresponding predetermined threshold level based on the estimation of background noise.

An AC arc fault detection module includes a current detecting section having at least one output and being structured to determine whether at least one signal based on a current measured from an AC phase line exceeds at least one corresponding predetermined threshold level and cause the at least one output to indicate that the threshold has been exceeded. The module also includes a processing device structured to: (i) receive the at least one output, (ii) determine whether an arc fault in the AC electrical system has occurred based on at least the at least one output, (iii) determine an estimation of background noise based on at least one signal indicative of a current on the AC phase line, and (iv) adjust the at least one corresponding predetermined threshold level based on the estimation of background noise.

A solenoid includes a magnetic frame, a bobbin having a length, a hold coil, a pick up coil having a length, a fixed pole, a movable armature having a length, and a return spring biasing the armature away from the pole. The solenoid includes a pick up state when the armature and the pole are separated by a magnetic gap, and a holding state when the armature and the pole are proximate each other. The pick up coil is wound around the bobbin for a portion of the length of the bobbin and the hold coil is wound around the bobbin for a remaining portion of the length of the bobbin. The length of the pick up coil is about the same as the length of the armature and is less than the length of the bobbin.
