A method for key refreshment in a wireless network system using a salt. The method includes receiving, from each of a plurality of secondary nodes communicably coupled to a primary node, a current session number. The current session numbers are compared to a session number at the primary node to identify a mismatch, and a salt is generated responsive to identifying the mismatch. The method further includes sending the salt to each of the plurality of secondary nodes having a current session number matching the session number at the primary node.

Salted key refreshment in wireless battery management systems

A vehicular battery management system (BMS) comprises a battery controller, a set of battery cells, a primary network node coupled to the battery controller, and a secondary network node coupled to the set of battery cells. The primary and secondary network nodes are configured to wirelessly communicate with each other using frames that share a common frame format. The frame format includes one or more bits and a status of the one or more bits indicates whether the secondary network node is to communicate with the primary network node on behalf of another secondary network node.

One-hop extension

A wireless interface includes: network formation circuitry configured to establish a wireless network between a primary node and a secondary node; data exchange circuitry configured to perform data exchanges between the primary node and the secondary node using secure sessions; and key refreshment circuitry configured to derive a new network key for the network based on a pre-shared key and a current network key concatenated with a session count. The new key is derived during at least one of the secure sessions.

Aspects of this description provide for a computer program product comprising computer executable instructions. In at least some examples, the instructions are executable by a controller to cause the controller to broadcast, in a data frame, a scan request to a node, the scan request including a certificate of the controller and a public authentication key of the controller, receive, in the data frame, a scan response from the node, the scan response including a certificate of the node and a public authentication key of the node, and perform pairing between the controller and the node based on the public authentication key of the node and a private authentication key of the controller.
